I love this show..but you can preorder it in The amazon for less than this and get free shipping...I dont understand why people would willingly pay more for something like this.I dont just see it here but on almost all items like this on E-bay...if yr on ebay yr lookin for a deal right?well if its not at least 20% less than you can buy it for in a store why not just buy it in a store.

This is not only a good show, its HISTORY ON SCREEN.

This is a great TV show for epic lovers and for history lovers. Just the explanations on the extras are worth the $50 or more dollars you will pay for the show. Rather than the glamorous ROME you are used to in the movies, the directors will show you the way regular romans lived.
You must see the first season to actually understand some plots of this season. The first season is great as well.
This season goes from the death of Julius Cesar, to the death of Marc Antony.
It tries to be as accurate as possible with history and actually has some features that explain historic facts.
You might want to avoid kids watch certain scenes, as the directors put Roman orgies and Egiptian feasts around every chapter.
The sad part of the show is that you will see that in 2000 years, humans have not evolved at all. We are still greedy little persons trying to obtain fortune by crushing our neighbors.
A MUST HAVE FOR HOME TV SERIES.
Worth every penny.

Rome, better than a soap opera
Review created: 03/02/08

There were a few liberties taken with regards to the wardrobes and other period particulars but still fairly accurate story.
The writers made the story line very interesting. After seeing the first episode, we couldn't wait to see the next, then the next and, yup, you guessed it, the next, all the way to the end of season 2.
If you are an uptight historian, you might not like this as much as we did but all our friends were anxious to borrow our copy.

  Rome-a great mini-series

This was a great continuation of the first season. I didn't focus on how historically accurate it was to the times but it appeared to be pretty accurate in the layout and scenarios...the back stabbing (no pun intended) and intrigue.

The only bad part? The series is over. I would like to see them bring it back.

  Best Ever - Bar None

This Rome series has to be the best ever made. It is historically accurate, with one small exception...that being Atia, Octavian's mother. She was very likely not like the character portrayed, but rather a very sweet and devoted mother. However, Atia in the series was in all probability not unlike some women in that era. Other than that, with a historical expert to advise throughout the series, it was a fantastic way to learn history and be entertained at the same time. There was a lot of nudity, sex, and violence in the series, but that is true to the time, also.
My husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed watching it the first time, and afterwards we watched all the bonus material, which was equally fascinating. Now we are watching the series all the way through, with the interactive historical inserts. Again, couldn't be better. Well, maybe it could be better in one way; MORE!!!! We both would kill to have more seasons of the show. After all, there are plenty of extremist characters both before and after the time portrayed in the series.
Another point was that the casting was wonderful. All the characters were good actors and totally believable. First glance at many characters, I didn't like who was cast in certain parts, but they grew on me and after a little watching, I was convinced they were perfect for the job.
What a totally incredible series. Kudos to all involved in this project.

  Rome - HBO 1st and 2nd Season.

Just finished watching 2nd season with my wife. WOW…, what a show.
It is not often I enjoy TV shows so much. I strongly recommend it. Beware, explicit “love” and violence and keep your kids away from the room.

A great series thoughly enjoyed it

As a historian l was thrilled with the historical accuracy of this series. I got down my old history books and checked on a few facts and couldn’t find any faults. It is very entertaining. It has the macho settings of a roman soldiers’ and gave many sociological incites of how life probably was lived. The author took many liberties but didn’t hurt the historical setting. A rare thing coming out of Hollywood.

Rome (the series) a first class experience!
Review created: 08/26/09(updated 08/27/09)

From the very beginning of this extaordinary series right up to its equally great conclusion, the viewer can abslutely count on being well informed - culturally challenged - and thourougly entertained. Both season one and season two knock the ball right out of the park. The acting, writing and directing can only be called superb, and the same can be said of the incredibly authentic set, costumes and the over-all production values.
I give the entire series 6 stars out of 5

Rome - The Complete Second Season
Review created: 08/03/09

Engaging series. What a spin that Verenus is now the dark spirit (bad guy) and Pullo is the good guy in the second season. Both actors pull it off wonderfully. I am convinced that the older Octavian "Caesar" is in fact just that...older. Even though I realize a new actor is in the role; he carries himself with the same poise as the young Octavian did and their speech is nearly identical (along with facial expressions). Plot a bit grim with Verenus' children now against him...but I can't stop watching!

Rome the Best!!! Great TV series. The best ever made.
Review created: 06/23/09

This is the best ever done by HBO or any other network. It beats out all the past mini series and teaches history to us all by watching this series. Watch it with the All Roads Lead to Rome lessons. Well worth it.

This was a very spectacular mini series. As with any great mini series, it keeps you wanting more. There was nothing that I disliked about it particularly since I love these kinds of movies. I highly recommend this series to everyone who likes Ancient times kind of stuff. You will not be disappointed!

  Rome Season 2
Review created: 05/11/09

Nothing like "Ben Hur", or "Anthony and Cleopatra", But Rome and Egypt as realistic as possible. The story line is captivating, but the history and customs are presented in more detail than I have seen anywhere else. I watched each episode three times. Once for the story, again for the historical inserts, and a third for the documentaries. There is no better way to learn about history than this!

If you like Blood Sex and Betrayal as intangibles in any series or film then this is the series for you! The acting is pretty good for the most part and the storyline works. I recommend the series but it contains a great deal of adult situations and language so beware of younger kids catching a glimpse. Enjoyable series. Missed Indira Varma but Octavian is sexy and drunk on power.

  An Exciting Series!
Review created: 05/07/08
by:

I absolutely loved this series and am devastated that it isn't still on the air! There is something in this show for everyone - passion, revenge, war, betrayal, deceit and so much more! The acting is first class. The entire case, including Kevin McKidd and Ray Stevenson is top notch. James Purefoy is featured in one of his finest peformances as Marc Antony. I was addicted and could not stop watching until I had seen it all!

  Rome- an Outstanding Drama
Review created: 05/03/08

I bought this to watch on my laptop during business travel and found it to be simply outstanding. The cast, the sets, the dialog - everything made you hold your breath and want more. The story is set around the time of the rise of Julius Caesar and it takes you through the timeline via the lives of two friends, Titus Pullo and Lucius Vorenus, common men involved in uncommon times. What I loved most (and something HBO has a real knack for delivering) is the believability. You can really imagine life in ancient Rome was very much like what they described - gritty, grimy, visceral, intriguing - in a word "fascinating". I can see why they do not plan a season 3, but to all involved, a big "well done". They should be fantastically proud of such an iconic miniseries.
