Star Wars: Rouge Planet

Rouge Planet is a Star Wars book that was released in May of 2000.
It was released in a hardcover format by Del Rey books. A softcover
version was later released in May of 2001. It was written by Greg Bear.

Rouge Planet is a prequel book that took place 29 years before the
Battle of Yavin in the Star Wars timeline.

Rouge Planet follows the adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.
They are sent to search out two mysterious events by the Jedi Council. The
disappearance of a Jedi Knight known as Verger and the source of a mysterious
fast living ship that she was sent out to investigate.

Kenobi and Skywalker eventually find a living planet named Zonama Sekot which
is the source of the living ships. They also find a group of people living on
Sekot that tend to the planets needs.

Skywalker bonds with the planet and it starts to create for him a living ship.
However, the planet is attacked by a mysterious force from space. Eventually
Kenobi and Skywalker escape the planet just before it disappears into
hyperspace to avoid another attack!

I found this book to be interesting as a stand alone novel. There was nothing
really special about it at the time. Yet, now after the entire New Jedi Order
series has been released we realize the true implications of this book.

The mysterious force that attacked Sekot was really the Yuuzhan Vong. Verger
once again appears in the New Jedi Order books as does the planet. All three
play a major part in that story arch. I like how this book was slipped out and
then later tied into the new series.

4/5, a nice read when you have a Star Wars craving.
