Synopsis Somehow lifetime rock-n-roll fan (and occasional McSweeney's contributor) Dan Kennedy never got the memo about the end of the major-label heyday, but all the better for us! His misguided initial enthusiasm for a new job in the advertising wing of Atlantic Records is soon tainted by his misadventures through cubicle corridors and faux pas in corporate-rock alleyways. His job is not what he'd hoped, so he doesn't bump into that many stars--though the few run-ins with washed-up stars and managers are priceless. Office politics seem to be the same in every industry, though, and Kennedy is a clever and entertaining guide through this ripe, if familiar, territory.

Publisher's Note In a zany memoir, the author of Loser Goes First chronicles the ups and downs of his career at a major record label, documenting his misadventures dealing with egomaniacs, incompetents, wackos, and know-it-all executive assistants while directing a gangsta rapper's commercial, battling his punk roots, and creating an ad for the love songs of Phil Collins. Original.
