It's simply a Great Game that lives up to its name
Review created: 09/19/08

Pros:
Refined gameplay
Funnest song list to play on any Rhythm game yet (all Master Tracks).
Perfect instrument sound synergy.
Fail-proof mode (for beginners)
Full Multiplayer! (you don't have to be physically together to play)
Band scores on online ranking!
You can import every Rock Band 1 song for only $5!.
It lives up to It's name and reputation in every single way.

Cons:
It's exactly what it's supposed to be, don't a expect a revolution from it!
Same graphics as previous game (but they are still great!)
You still can't recreate yourself exactly in the character creation.
New drums and guitars aren't worth it if you have the old ones.

Overall thoughts:
If you liked the first one, JUST BUY IT! It's perfect and more refined! Many new options like the mutliplayer band competition, the fail proof mode that makes tough song a lot more pleasing to play if know you are going to fail in the solos (gotcha Green Grass & High Tides!), the bass solo career, the songs, the simplified band selecting options (Offline or online), and the list goes on and on... so Its just a Great game.

Unbelievably improved from the origonal. Drum training section teaches real drum techniques. Many of the songs in this game will appeal to the target audience as many of them are from later releases.

  Rock Band part deux
Review created: 01/08/09

Rock Band; the first game got it right by incorporating all the instruments to a standard 4 piece rock outfit. It's a great game by anyone's standards and is absolutely perfect for any party or get-together. It is very customizable and has a great track list from all major genres of rock and roll that's fun for the whole family. The game just "gets it."

Rock Band 2 got it near-perfect. This game builds upon the first one without detracting from its iconic status; a feat nearly impossible to accomplish with a sequel of any sort. The songs are more precise and easier to navigate. There's more character customization. And best of all, ALL of your Rock Band 1 songs save 3 can be imported and managed just like downloaded songs on Rock Band 2.

Speaking of downloadable content, did I mention there are HUNDREDS of great tracks available, AND they're performed by the ORIGINAL artists. Nothing against cover bands, you guys rock too; but if I have to purchase a track to essentially "cover" myself, I'd really like to use the official recording rather than cover a cover. (Btw, there are about 5 songs that are covers left over from RB1 content, but compared to Rock Band's popular counterpart that almost exclusively uses cover bands that's not saying much.)

As far as gameplay goes, it's gotten slightly better in terms of accuracy and breaking the monotony of hitting the same note patterns for 8 or so different songs. Although playing a plastic guitar is no comparison to the real thing, the drums and vocals are pretty close. I myself don't play drums but have heard numerous real drummers state how close they actually get on Expert mode. I can speak for the vocals though. They have gotten much more accurate in reading the notes you're singing (or screaming).

Particularly screaming has become more precise. It's easy to scream and even clip the input on the "talking" parts and have the game still register that you're speaking into the mic. In the first incarnation of this game, screaming above a medium roar would, for lack of a better word, confuse the microphone and cause it to not register, thus killing your score and causing you to fail the song. It still has trouble registering the notes you are screaming to the point you have to be right on the money or nothing at all during the "singing" parts but hopefully that will be fixed in the next installment.

Overall, this game is nearly perfect in every way. The oh-so-few minor annoyances (such as no longer having default lag settings or the ability to play locally with your Xbox Avatar as a character) I could name are far outweighed by the sheer playability of this title. I highly recommend this game to anyone, even if you've never played a guitar game in your life. The learning curve is so low and has an awesome progression that is sure to keep you, your friends, and your family entertained for a long time. Thanks for reading and rock hard!

Rock Band Rocks!! and RB2 Rocks twice
Review created: 12/19/08
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

first off the if you buy the prepackaged kit the drums are aweful get the drum rocker it is super expensive but very worth it...
The Game itself is almost perfect the songs are diverse and cover something for everyone from modern falloutboy to older bon jovi, from christian kutless to dark disturbed and just odd like system of a down.
i dont like the vocals you are forced to sing both main and backup vocals which at times you wont get a breath they should find a way to split it and maybe add another mic?!
the drums are great i am a drummer since age 12 and at first did not like drumming at all but i invested in the better set and moved up to medium and hard skill levels and find it is much more enjoyable and medium is a very good training tool for new drummers as far as keeping time and figuring out chops and fills - very helpful!!
The guitar is my favorate becasue it is easy and does not require much room to play. i can not get past medium but i have only been playing for a few weeks so i will give it some time.
Best of all is that my parents who are NONGAMERS absolutely love this game! they are in their late 40's and i cant pry this game out of their hands. By the way i am 26 and do not live with my parents - FYI
this game is fun for everyone and if only the drumset was better and the vocals were adjustable then it would be perfect.

i almost forgot you can download more music from xbox live there are like 500 songs. and if you purchase a new sealed copy of this game you get a code to redeem 20 free downloads from xbox live these downloads are predetermined, but definateky worth it.

this is as much as i could remeber about the game please forgive me if i have left anything out. just remember YOU CAN NOT GO WRONG GETTING THIS GAME!!
i have not proof read or spell checked this in any way

Pros: Very good setlist with songs such as Panic Attack by Dream Theater, and Painkiller by Judas Priest. New songs are always released over XBOX Live for download every Tuesday. You can import the old Rock Band songs if you have your old Rock Band disc. New Drum Trainer feature allows you to practice your skills without failing in a real band. Online play works very well, of course there are minor hickups here and there. Tour is fun and can keep you interested in the game for many hours. Character customization, guitar customization, are also good ways to spend your time.

Cons: Some "filler" bands that aren't really known have weeded their way in the setlist and aren't the most enjoyable to play. There are far too many menu's to get through. Going on tour mode turns out to be a hassle if you forget to activate breakneck speed because you have to back out of about twenty menus. You can't use your character you've made in Quickplay. For each song you've played in Quickplay you can't see how many Stars you received. You might have to calibrate for a normal TV because they want you to buy the Stratocaster (which auto calibrates) instead of using 3rd party controller's like Guitar Hero's Les Paul which is what I use. Can be addicting!

Rock Band 2 more of the same but in a good way.

The thing about Rock Band 2 is its more like an expansion pack or Rock Band 1.5 there are a couple more different things but overall it's more of the same. You have an improved tour mode. There is no longer a solo career you just do world tour either alone or with friends. You can play online with a band which is very much welcome addition. You can customize your characters a little more. Really small improvements that make the game great. What it all comes down to is if you like these kinds of songs. There is a great mix of classic rock and some recent tracks by popular artist. Rock band has turned into the favorite game of the person who likes a lot of music in general. Guitar hero has become more for the metal crowd. So choose wisely.

Rock Band 2 improves in several areas over the original. The track list is better, the difficulty has been bumped up, it's more accessible, all previously released DLC works from the get-go, and Battle of the Bands is a brilliant online mode. But there's no getting around the fact that almost nothing was done to the main mode, World Tour. This is still the primary feature of Rock Band and yet it seems to have been neglected. It's hard to notice the newness when there's a big chunk of game that is just the same as it ever was.

That said, music game fans would be absolutely crazy not to buy Rock Band 2. Even if you hate a few of the songs on disc, you are still getting an incredible deal. It's less than a dollar a song, with an extra 20 free DLC coming in the next couple of months. That's just too good to pass up.

  Rock Band 2

I totally love this game. It has a lot more songs than Guitar Hero 3: World Tour, as well as more of a choice of songs to download from the Rock Band 2 music store.
As far as personal music taste goes, they have a lot of great songs on here as well. I like it better than Guitar Hero as well because there is more of a story line - more of an actual "game" you can play. Not just playing songs and that's it, although you can choose to do that in Quickplay mode.
The "Tour" mode allows you to "travel" to different cities all around the world, play shows, make money, unlock other places to play shows at, hire staff, and more. Not to mention the hundreds of ways you can dress up your character and personalize him/her to look like you! You also have the option to put make up, accessories, and even tattoos on your character!
I also like it better because if you're playing with someone either from different places on xbox live or in the same room, you can "save" them if they fail, by going into overdrive (star power). Guitar Hero doesn't allow you to do this. If the other person/people fails, you all fail!
I actually can't think of any ways I like this LESS than Guitar Hero. They both have their share of great songs, but other than that, Rock Band 2 is the way to go.
I just purchased Rock Band (the first one) on ebay a couple of days ago, so I will certainly be doing a review of that too once I play it!

  Better than Expected
Review created: 04/20/09

I was obsessed with Guitar Hero 3, it was one of my favorite games for almost a year. When I heard that there would be a Guitar Hero world tour, it was all I looked forward to for almost 3 months but when I found out that Rock Band 2 was going to be an Xbox 360 exclusive I couldn't help but buy it. I was thinking that this will just be a place holder until GH 4 came out, but to my surprise the game was better than expected the game play beat guitar hero 3 and the setlist was one of the best I have ever seen. My personal favorite song is Master Exploder by Tenacious D because of its fast notes and plus its a great song. So if you ever have the question "What should I buy Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero World Tour?" the answer should always be Rock Band 2, the superior game.

Have you ever dreamed of becoming a rockstar?
Review created: 04/08/09

Rock Band 2 could be possibly one of the most action-packed games ever released by far for the Xbox 360 console system. It's challenging and, most importantly, fun. It's a great game for you and your family. Your family can play, as well. If you've purchased the full Rock Band set (e. drums, bass, guitar, microphone) it'll bring the game alive, especially in Tour mode. So, if you've always dreamed of becoming a rockstar you can live that dream by purchasing this game. Overall, this is a great game, no questions asked.

So much better than Rock Band! And Guitar Hero...
Review created: 01/25/09
by:
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Rock Band 2 is worth the $50-$60 you'd have to pay retail for.

First and foremost, you no longer just play songs... RB2 gives you challenges in the form of tours. These tours can either be unlocked by yourself (or with band mates -- additionally, not all band members have to be present for you to progress through the game). Having a string of songs makes the game more challenging and interesting than just continuously picking.

Additionally, you can specialize your character if you choose to make one. This might not be a big thing to some, but it is pretty neat to see a virtual version of you solo'ing or drumming away. Also, you have to unlock certain areas by playing, gaining fans, or gaining star ratings in order to get special gear. This encourages even more game play, as you have to play at specific cities in order to win certain merchandise.

I don't know if you can really say there's "replayability" because the game never really ends. I spent 8-10 hours straight playing with my college buddies, and we just couldn't get enough. Even the annoying songs are entertaining because of how much they challenge you on each instrument (even bass).

I highly recommend you get a second guitar though in addition to the mic, drums, and guitar. In doing so, see if you can get an RB2 wireless controller with auto-calibration (this takes care of visual and audio discrepancies). The $70 spent helps you get to game play faster (especially if you have to deal with LCD/Plasma screens).

Hope this helps; feel free to message me with questions!

For Music Lovers of All Ages!
Review created: 11/30/08

I bought this game because I was interested in the original Rockband. Having all the equipment, it was easy to just buy the disc and pop it on in. The playstyle and setup of all of the modes are excellent. You can play the band storyline online, with friends, or by your lonesome. Also, it has a wonderfully diverse set list featuring songs from the 1960s to today! The classics and the hits, all rolled into one.

Even if you aren't the biggest fan of video games, the music lover in you will adore this game!

Best thing that ever happen to family

Rock Band and Rock Band2 rates in the high 9's out of 10 in my book. Im am a huge fan to videogames ever since Atari and Commadore 64. My wife and kids dont really play videogames as much as I do. But ever since Rock Band came out the whole family gets involved, even friends are begging to play. This game is the ultimate party game for all ages. The bad points of Rock Band is the drums. They break often due to constant pounding. Other than that this game is a must have for everyone to enjoy just as much as my family has.

If you Like Rockband you should love Rockband 2! You can import all the songs from rock band for like $6. Not only that but every song u downloaded for rockband automatically goes on rockband 2! Also they changed it so you dont have to have a band leader thats really sweet. Now when you preview the songs to make a setlist it tells you the difficulty of each instrument. Well worth getting!
