Another year-another musical One Tree Hill cashcow

I remember the first One Tree Hill soundtrack, how it was the cd for me at the right time. That cd may have been the soundtrack to my senior year. This third installment in the One Tree Hill series is good, but while the first two stood apart in quality and melodrama against the try-hard quirkiness of the OC soundtracks, this one seems eager to replicate it.
The cd features various 'indie' sounding acoustic songs from bands you may not have heard of, or likely will again. A soundtrack is about discovering new sounds, new bands, but I do not want a recycled OC effort. The offerings from Tyler Hilton and The Wreckers are obvious stand-outs, but feel like they were re-recorded on a cheap cell phone; manufactured to drop down to the same level as Band Of Horses. I only speak for myself, but as a youth of today I do not listen to cassettes-I expect cd quality when I buy a cd.
The cd seems to have gone through a couple of changes before release. Jack's Mannequin does not appear as advertised, replaced with a watered down cover by the predictably eccentric Gym Class Heroes.
The cd seems to be a self-indulgent exercise by the shows producer. While I haven't seen the episode this cd is attached to, I have trouble picturing 'moments' that would make each track special in the eyes of viewers.
If you find yourself taking a road trip do yourself a favour and make your own memories, with your own songs, rather than ones picked from someone elses youth a generation ago.
A fifth series of this show has been confirmed, with a dramatic time shift four years into the future. I look forward to spending time with the resident's of One Tree Hill as they begin to lead adult lives that I hope are more relevant to my own.
