The Road to El Dorado (DVD, 2000)

I missed this when it first came out, and, after 8 years of watching other animation movies, the message and action is a timeless masterpiece. I still think this movie has a great deal of merit for anyone, including children.

The story holds your interest upon the characters and shows that sacrifice is always the only choice.

The Road to El Dorado is an animated film about two Spanish men, Miguel and Tulio who are con artists. One of their cons goes bad and they are forced to run from a large group of angry sailors, and in the process free a bull and have to run from it, as well. They end up as unwitting stow-aways aboard Conqueror Cortes's ship, and when they are found out he sentences them to flogging and slavery. They eventually escape the ship on a rowboat and land on a strange island. Miguel, who won a map from one of the sailors recognizes the island as El Dorado, and talks Tulio into searching for the city of gold with him. Eventually, they find it and are mistaken for Gods, and they take advantage of that for quite some time. Tulio, who never has enough gold, wants to take as much as he can and leave the city, while Miguel, who loves the adventure they are on, wants to stay and live in the city forever. Unfortunately, before either of them get their way, they hear that Cortes is on his way, and they come up with a plan to save the people of the city. They use the boat full of gold to smash the pillars holding the entrance to the city up. At one point the sale gets caught, and Miguel has to jump and catch it to get it open, which means he'll never get to see the city again. When the boat crashes into the pillars, all the gold that Tulio had collected is lost. But they had each other, plus a pretty young woman from the city, and they ride off together to find another adventure.

I bought this movie because it shows strong bonds between Miguel and Tulio, and that they care for each other and for the city of El Dorado and its people. It shows these two con-men growing close to each other, and leaving their selfish ways behind in order to help their new found friends in El Dorado. The music, done by Elton John, was extremely well written and performed. A very very good movie, at a very good price, ideal for children and families, at an affordable price. I highly recommend this movie to anyone and everyone.

Great dialog, likeable characters. A must-have movies that both the kids and their parents can enjoy. One of those movies that proves Disney is not the only company that can produce enjoyable animated movies for the entire family.

I love this movie, I've watched it with kids and adults and both have enjoyed the comedy. Its like Shrek in the sence that there is humor aimed at kids and adults. I recomend it for families of all ages!

Great movie for both young and adults. The movie is very funny and packed with adventures. There are only few movies adults would not mind seeying them with their kids. This is one of them.

I had forgotten I had somewhat liked the movie and then watched it again at a friends house. The one thing I didn't like about it, was even though it is rated PG, it has some adult humor and cussing that is inappropriate for children younger than 12.

A nice animated trip for kids, but hardly a required journey for grown-ups. its a clean family movie that the little ones will like but lacks the real dept that the animators were looking for. how ever it can hold you attention.

This movie is funny right from the start, The two main characters in this cartoon of a paradise long forgotten will have you wanting more.

I was looking for a cheap, but good quality DVD to replace my broken VHS and I found this. It came just how they said and it played perfectly in the DVD player. It also came in a good amount of time. I didn't have to wait weeks for it to come in. Thank you for that!

My family loves this movie. We started to take it along when we went camping and is now something we take every time we go. We originally had this on VHS and I just bought this now on DVD. It is one of our favorites.. "Loaded dice?" "You gave me loaded dice?" It's funny!!

Bought it as a xmas gift. A cute movie for kids and teens. My kids have watched it several times and still enjoy it. Will save for grand kids to watch.

This is one of my daughter's favorite movies - she's probably watched it 1000 times. The story line is of an adventure of two schemers trying to get their hands on the gold in the city of lost gold - they team up with a girl who wants to explore the world and leave her village, so she helps them. They are actually a couple of idiots and aren't fooling anyone - there is a lot of comedic relief between the 2 main characters. If you liked Emporer's New Groove you will probably enjoy this movie.

I bought the DVD for my seventh grade students to watch as they are learning about Ancient America's (Aztec, Incas,Mayans). It is a cute movie that allows them to use their knowledge of the America's to find connections.

My boy loves this movie he can sing the song and loves the adventure this is his 2nd copy of the movie he has worn out the other one

We all enjoyed it, I would reccommend it to almost anyone. A little adult humor hidden thru out the film enhances it for the more mature audience, but does not detract anything for the smaller ones.
