Album Notes Ringo Starr And His All Star Band: Ringo Starr (vocals, drums); Joe Walsh, Nils Lofgren (vocals, guitar); Clarence Clemons (vocals, saxophone, percussion); Dr. John, Billy Preston (vocals, keyboards); Rick Danko (vocals, bass); Levon Helm (vocals, drums); Jim Keltner (drums). Recorded live at The Greek Theatre, Los Angeles, California. After spending most of the '80s pursuing his acting career and being a celebrity sideman for other artists, Ringo Starr started barnstorming with a group of famous musicians named the All-Starr Band. RINGO STARR AND HIS ALL-STARR BAND is a live recording from Los Angeles' Greek Theatre in which every member of Starr's back-up band took a turn behind the mike with the exception of all-purpose session drummer Jim Keltner and an uncredited Zak Starkey. Some of the songs here are hits by the participants' former groups. Levon Helm sings "The Weight," Joe Walsh does "Life In The Fast Lane." Billy Preston has fun with his own hit ("Will It Go Round In Circles") whereas Dr. John ("Iko Iko"), Rick Danko (Buddy Holly's "Raining In My Heart") and Clarence Clemons (Gary US Bonds' "Quarter To Three") chose to cover their own favorite songs. Only Nils Lofgren strayed from the well-traveled path by performing "Shine Silently," one of his own, more obscure compositions. The man under whose moniker these superstars were performing ably represents his own passel of Top 5 solo hits, as well as Carl Perkins' "Honey Don't."
