Album Notes
Full performer name: Rick Danko/Jonas Fjeld/Eric Andersen.
Personnel includes: Rick Danko, Jonas Fjeld, Eric Andersen, Garth Hudson.
The second collaboration of these three roots-rock veterans is more reminiscent of Rick Danko's work with The Band than was their 1993 self-titled release; it also has a gentler edge, with more folk and traditional songs and fewer rock and roll tunes. Eric Andersen's lovely duet with Kirsten Brathen Berg on Richard Thompson's "Dimming Of The Day" is particularly reflective of RIDIN' ON THE BLINDS' peaceful spirit, but the musical trio is equally at home performing the gospel-tinged "All Creation" and the bluesy "Every Man Is His Own Hero," which is dedicated to blues harmonica legend Paul Butterfield: "Your mind quick as a carny man/Whose lips blew the sweetest sounds/Every man is his own hero/Till the heroin takes him down." Dense with melody and instrumentation that includes banjo, medieval harp, dulcimer and bagpipes, this is sincere and satisfying roots music, with palpable country, folk and rock influences and irresistible vocal harmonies.
