Ride the Wild Surf
Ride the Wild Surf was released around the same time as The Endless Summer 1964. The Huge Hawaiian surf is the star, the actors and story are secondary. Greg Noll and Mickey Dora were the surfing doubles for Jim Mitchum and Fabian in the film. Shot in Hawaii and at LA's (Secos) Leo Carrillo State Beach the surfing is authentic. The shots of surfboards mysteriously floating back to their owners after horrific wipeouts is pure dunk tank magic! Music by Jan and Dean makes you want to "Get that one last ride". This film is probably the best Hollywood attempt at a movie involving surfing in the 60's. John Milius' Big Wednesday in 1978 got closer to the mark.
