"Livin' La Vida Loca" won the 2000 Billboard Latin Music Award for Latin Pop Track of the Year and was nominated for Hot Latin Track of the Year.

The statement may raise a few eyebrows, but this ex-Menudo hunk has come up a stunner of an album. A track like "Livin' La Vida Loca" makes a seamless amalgam of Pan-Americana in which surf guitars, electronica, and Mariachi horns rock together in fine form, and its Spanglish chorus feels as ordinary a pop hook as any other. Much of the album's appeal lies in the fact that it makes a booty-shakin' piece of art of North America's sometimes divisive bilingual reality. "The Cup Of Life," with its Carnaval-esque splendor, gathers a good deal of steam. "Shake Your Bon-Bon" and "Maria" do more of the same, while "She's All I Ever Had" and "Be Careful" take it more sweet 'n mellow. Subtle yet urgent, the latter track has the one and only Madonna adding heat to the pot, with English and Spanish pleading that twists into a fiery double helix with Ricky's soft crooning.

Ricky Martin Takes English World By Storm
    Review created: 12/19/07
by: keithpruitt -- a member of Epinions

    Pros:
From sultry love songs to uptempo Spanish versions, Ricky captures the emotion of every song.

    Cons:
Ricky's voice gets a little rough in places.

BACKGROUND When Ricky Martin was born in Puerto Rico on December 24, 1971, his parents could hardly have known how this child would affect the world. You might hate him, love him, be attracted to him, can t stand to hear him or see him smile, but you can t deny that as we turned the century, Ricky Martin had a huge impact on the world of music. Martin began his music career at a young age. He did commercials but knew his love was music. He heard the group Menudo at age 10 and auditioned; he was turned down. Three years later he tried again; this time successfully. During his five years with...

Livin' La Vida Loca with Ricky
    Review created: 03/01/04
by: socrazy -- a member of Epinions

    Pros:
    Lots of catchy songs

    Cons:
Spanglish Radio Edits, Ricky's voice can become annoying to listen to after too many songs

Everyone knows Ricky Martin. He may have faded into oblivion but he definitely used to be really big. That s when I purchased his CD. The booklet has lyrics (yay!) and is scattered with pictures of Ricky looking around wistfully, or sporting a leather jacket, trying to seem tough. There are some Special Thanks too. My favorite one is Madonna You rock BIG BUTTERFLY. No further explanation. Oh well. The first song on this CD is the immediately recognizable Livin La Vida Loca. If you don t know this song, shame on you! Trumpets introduce the song, and there s some guitar occasionally. This is a..

    Pros:
has a good beat and you can dance to it

    Cons:
made me say "has a good beat and you can dance to it"

Moms aren t supposed to like Ricky Martin. Its a rule, right? So when my teenage sister got my five year old, Amanda, hooked on Livin La Vida Loca I told her to shut her boca. I told my dear sister that no children of mine would be shaking any bon bons in my house. Before having kids, I was more of a Nine Inch Nails kind of gal, certainly not a pop music fan. I managed to avoid Spice Girls fever and was perfectly happy listening to VeggieTales songs in the car with the kids. No problema, adios Ricky Martin, or so I thought. My dear daughter was constantly humming Livin La Vida Loca around the.

      great music

    Pros:
    great music

    Cons:
    none

Think he is wonderful. I remember him on general Hospital years ago and loved him then. I love his music. His tv special concert was great. I love the way he is now doing english speaking music. I can't believe that the award show made him a super star. But I'm glad for him and wish him the best of luck. I am kind of sick of Living la vida loca but it is starting to fade away. love his ballets. and hope he does tons more albums. Wish he would also come back to General Hospital and act. I liked hearing him sing and could hear different stuff more often. Plus he was so cute with his long hair.

      Not good
    Review created: 03/01/00

    Pros:
    nothing!

    Cons:
    no emotion, its just awful!

Okay, I must admit I bought this Album. I saw the video and I thought, "Livin La Vida Loca" was a catchy tune. But the other songs were not very good. He really doesn't have a good singing voice. Not in english anyways.I had purchased a spanish album of his and loved it. But this one, I must admit is awful! My husband had warned me by saying that he had no voice. Well I just thought that he was just jealous of him. I mean Ricky is cute. So naturally I thought my husband was jealous of him. But my husband was right, this album is bad. Very bad, I mean I wouldn't listen to it for anything. It...
