The Riches - Season 1 (DVD, 2009, 4-Disc Set)

Fans of Eddie Izzard take note-the man is also a fabulous actor with a great range! Izzard plays Wayne Maloy, a traveler (sometimes called Roma or Gypsy). He and his family find themselves in the strange circumstance of being able to steal the American Dream(Mcmansion, lots of cash, cars, etc). This show has smart and funny writing with plots that seem ridiculous at first glance yet play out in a realistic fashion. Minnie Driver plays Izzard's wife, Dahlia. She is recently released from prison. He re-entry into society is a central point of season 1. Her character is immature, annoying, selfish and completely believable. Although I find her character hard to bear I can see where she is coming from. Driver is able to elicit sympathy for a none too likable character. I don't know of many actresses that could pull the job off without making Dahlia into a raving lunatic or witch.
The kids are a hidden gem of the show. The 3 kids seem to know more about life than their parents. It's engrossing to watch the oldest 2 take care of the youngest while the parents are oblivious to what the kids are going thru. Wayne and Dahlia exist in their little world; their children seem to be considered as afterthoughts if at all. I look forward to watching season 2 in it's entirety to see if the parents wake up and plug into their kids a bit more. I really think the show would be enriched showing more parental interaction.
I love the uniqueness of this show. The premise is fresh and new. Supporting characters are people with which one can easily relate. You will find yourself questioning why you live the way you live as you get deeper into the show. The show doesn't preach or spoon feed the message to it's viewers. It sets out to show how one family deals with being mainstream vs. anti-establishment, and why the mainstream is not always best. The message is clear and concise yet the writers leave the viewer to draw their own conclusions.

The show seems really far-fetched, but once you start watching you just can't stop. It's well written, but even better acted. Great show... can't wait for the second season!

Great show! Something out of the ordinary! Excellent story line. It gets you hooked from the first show. Eddie Izzard and Mini Driver are both great and believible.

Item bought as Christmas gift. My sister really liked it. I really don't have an opinion; I have never seen it.

I love this show and was able to the the first season at a low cost. The show is very different from what is on tv at this time. I think it's very entertaining and has a lot of great drama. The Riches has become one of my most favorite shows. Thanks to eBay I am able to buy the seasons at a low cost.

I was delightfully impressed with "The Riches". Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver portray extremely complex, underhanded yet delightful characters in this mesmerizing television series. The plot line is fascinating and the weekly episodes are imaginative and spellbinding. I love the DVD format because there are NO commercials to break up the story. I purchased this as a Christmas gift for our daughter and her husband because I enjoy it so much and know they will too.

This show is one of a kind and different from most shows out there. I like it because of the quirky situations they get themselves into and the suspense it creates. It also can be funny at times which is another plus. All around great show!!

I never heard of the show (which apparently airs on the F/X channel) until someone recommended it because I am an Eddie Izzard fan.

The DVD was not available for rent at my local video store, so I purchased the set on Ebay. The show is so entertaining that I watched the entire first season in two days. A few days later I watched the entire season again with the rest of the family and laughed just as hard! We are still quoting lines from one especially funny scene.

Minnie Driver is a hoot and Eddie Izzard is - well - amazing! If you like dark humor or the quirky, off-the-wall styles of Weeds and/or Big Love chances are you are going to love this show too! Very witty and entertaining, over and over again! We are anxiously awaiting the Season Two release on DVD! We rate this a very worthwhile purchase.

i find the riches humor to be refreshing if somewhat overdone at times.eddie izzards part is well played and minnie driver is just as good.the humor is unpredictable which keeps my attention.

this is a great show with a unique story line. Traveler's aka gypsys and how they try to steal the american dream. I can't wait until season two. the only down sid ei sthat there are not many episodes in the set. Nor will there be for season two.

I like this show. It's different from other current shows on TV. It has good characters that are diverse, and well-acted by the show's great cast. I would definitely recommend it.

I liked shopping e-bay for The Riches, First Season, because I was able to get it for less money than it was selling for elsewhere. It was exactly what I wanted for a reasonable cost. I bought it because it was new in the original packaging.

I love Eddie Izzard anyway and think he is a comedic genius, but this series has brought it to a whole other level! He, Minnie Driver, and the rest of the cast give a brilliant performance that pulls me into their characters as well as the story. The writers are brilliant not only as they write such wonderful lines for the characters, but the story takes a new twist that makes it exciting and blend in with the rest of the series. I see this series lasting a long long time!
This is a MUST HAVE!

This is far and away one of the best series ever produced. It is an entertaining show with very high quality acting and script. At times it may seem a little dark but that is part of what makes it unique and unpredictable. Driver and Lizzard have been paired to perfection; the writers have hit a home run with this one.

Having the first year of shows on DVD has filled many hours of viewing pleasure for me. I have shared the set with four of my friends that were unaware of this series, now they are hooked for the current run for 2009. The product performed as advertised but the content has to be rated at 110%.

This has to be one of the best shows that I have seen on TV! Eddie plays a great character and the other characters mesh very very well to make a great show about a family of con-artists.

This is a great new show that takes on a segment of society not yet portrayed elsewhere. Since I don't really know anything about Travelers I don't know how realistic the portrayal is, but the storylines hook you and the acting keeps you interested.

Excellent show; extraordinarily well done with great character development.

It has special value in revealing a societal subset called the Travelers, sort of like American Gypsies; they're the consummate scam artists who do aluminum siding, roofing, driveway paving projects - usually with a "down-payment" by the consumer, who then gets a lousy job, if these scam artists are ever seen again after they make their deposits.

The series is great since it shows a Traveler family caught up in the ultimate scam and dealing with all the challenges of pulling it off. As intricately woven as The Sting, but all the more pleasurable since it's a series. I can't wait for the next season to begin.

This is the coolest show ever! I couldn't wait to get the season on DVD. So fun to watch what situations the Riches will get themselves into every week, great series!

As a fan of the show and in particular Eddie Izzard, this DVD set is highly recommended. The show is something knew that you do not normally see on television these days so its nice to see a change of pace.

I don't know how you could not like this show. It is one of my favorite shows to date. Hopefully they come out with another season. The acting is spectacular, a very well-written script. The storyline is the best part. It sucks you in from episode one. I guarantee if you watch episode one, you will fall in love with this show.
