Don't be confused by the name; DJ Quik isn't offering up a paint-by-numbers in-the-mix recording, or any fancy turntable manipulation. Instead, this multi-talented artist is busy defining a new genre for himself on RHYTHM-AL-ISM. A vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, DJ Quik's abilities and musical interests are too wide-ranging to be contained by any one style. He fuses good-timey, often boastful rapping with vintage '70s R&B and early-'80s Rick James-style funk-rock. Though he's as obsessed with the opposite sex as anyone this side of R. Kelly, Quik has a contemplative side, as seen on "You'z a Gangsta." On this cut, he continually refutes the title's accusation, offering a strenuous enough protest to put you on his side. Mostly, though, RHYTHM-AL-ISM is pure party music-light-hearted, funky and irresistible.

you will not be disappointed in this classic everything about it is BANGING!!!
If only they still made hip hop music like this instead of all this commercial stuff we have these days, that talk about nothing but money, car, cash and girls! back in the day, ten years ago rappers were preaching about reality!!!

This album truly doesn't need words to describe it. There's a vibe DJ Quik gives off that no other artist can in hip-hop. His production, though different to what you may be accustomed too (especially if you follow the horrible things on MTV/BET/Radio), stands lightyears above what other producers can hope to accomplish. Quik's style reached it's musical and innovative peak in 1998, when he released his 4th album, Rhythm-al-ism.
Like I said before, this album really doesn't need explanation. I can promise that you'll be hooked by the first 2 tracks at most. If those 2 don't get you then there's probably not a point to continue listening to this album. The "Rhythm-al-ism (Intro)" puts you right into the vibe with keyboards wailing in the back and a guitar ripping through the track as Quik jumps in and leaves you tounge twisted wondering just what he said. Don't go press rewind just yet, for when the brething stops (you'll understand) you get into the my personal favorite track on the cd, "We Still Party". This was the track that really into DJ Quik in the first place, to sum it up.
The rest of the album is so well set up, so consistent, it's just hard to describe. Everytime you hear the next track, it just SOUNDS like it belongs wheres its placed. It's the and arrangement of the album that really makes it what it is. Every instrument makes it all fit together perfectly like a puzzle. The first half of the album is 'faster' than the second half, and it ends at the track "Speed", but by nooo means is the second half any worse than the first. The album features Quik's usual camp (AMG; 2nd II None; Hi-C) and puts 2 more people on the album, who later become a part of Quik's usual crew: Mausberg (RIP) and Suga Free. The album also features El Debarge, Peter Gunz, Snoop and Nate Dogg, and G-One lends his production talents to Quik on some tracks.
In final, all I can say is listen to this album at night, because it really has more of a night-party vibe. I first heard it before going to sleep and it really does set that mood. For those new to Quik, this (and Safe & Sound) are the best of Quik, and for those musically deaf, this should be more than an eye opener for you.
