Album notes
The Beatles: George Harrison (vocals, guitar, sitar); Paul McCartney (vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards, bass); John Lennon (vocals, guitar); Ringo Starr (vocals, drums).
Additional personnel includes: Alan Civil (French horn); Anil Bhagwat (tabla); Brian Jones (background vocals).
Arguably the first psychedelic rock album, REVOLVER was praised for its musical experimentation--the Indian sounds of "Love You To," the Motown-inspired "Got To Get You Into My Life," the backwards guitar in "I'm Only Sleeping." "Tomorrow Never Knows" was the most radical departure from previous Beatles' recordings for its skeletal bass/drums propulsion enhanced only with tape loops (contributed by all four Beatles and added in the mix-down process), more backwards guitar, and an eerie John Lennon vocal.
Still, the Beatles' experimentation grew out of their songwriting, which had matured beyond formula pop. "Tomorrow Never Knows" was inspired by the Tibetan Book of the Dead, Harrison's "Taxman" was a bitter diatribe, and McCartney's "Eleanor Rigby" was a bleak portrait of loneliness. Balanced with upbeat songs like "Good Day Sunshine" and "Yellow Submarine," REVOLVER proved The Beatles were not mere pop stars, but musical artists in search of new sounds and ideas.

THE BOYS FINALLY LOSE THEIR INNOCENCE WITH "REVOLVER"
Review created: 08/05/06
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

After discovering the healing and creative effects of the of the Bob Dylan introduced, "funny cigarettes" on their last LP, Rubber Soul, the Beatles went on to record this pioneering masterpiece.
This is really the beginning of the Psychedelic movement as we know it today and it came a full year earlier in 1966! This LP introduces pop fans to things that were to come in rock music way before they became a staple. Case in point: The horn section that was later to be a constant in the Chicago Transit Authority's first and subsequent Lps ( in the tune "Got To Get You Into My Life"), the first Drum-n-bass recording (with no machines, just Ringo blasting away at the polyrhythms!!), in "Tomorrow Never Knows", rock-meets-world music ("Love To You" with it's pre-Sgt. Pepper sitar/tabla workout), the shredding guitar solo by Paul on the Harrison penned, Taxman....yes Paul!!! and many other recording techniques and devices that were previewed on this LP for the first time.
Overall this record is a delight to hear and showcases why the Beatles were the most important group of their generation, not only in a fashion sense (like most of today's music seems to lean to), but they upped the ante for groups that came after which led to the world getting to hear the most advanced musicians in rock with the dawning of the Progressive rock and later the fusion era.....for better or worse...Revolver.....a true rock classic!

Revolver has always been a favorite of mine and I consider it to be one of The Beatles finest and most solid recordings both musically and lyrically. Taxman is a great starter tune that becomes more and more relevant as the years go by. Other personal favorites include Eleanor Rigby, Here There and Everywhere, and of course the amazing Yellow Submarine. This is a must own album for even the most casual Beatles fan. 5 Stars.

The name of the CD (then it was an album) was perfect. The Beatles were revolving, or evolving to individual talents, and it first displayed itself on this collection. I bought it to download to my laptop and then sell the CD back to another music listener. "Eleanor Rigby" alone is a study in the growth of The Beatles.

As a baby boomer, I was in high school when this album came out. It was the only one I was missing in a whole collection of Beatle albums. Although I lost the entire collection to an unpaid storage unit bill in my last year of college. I couldn't resist the temptation to finally get the Beatles revlover album. I never would have thought when it first came out I would someday listen to it in a digital format. I bought it with a "buy it now" option, waited like a kid at christmas, it arrived a few short days later and now it seems to play non stop in my cars C.D. player. Thanks to another Excellent E-Bayer. When I want to buy anything, I go to e-bay first, I trust Ebay entirely, but I only buy from sellers with many positive transactions. A buyer like me will make it difficult for a new seller to become a big seller.

I am a hard core Beatles fan, yet I never kept up with the transition from LP's to CD and now find that I can no longer locate the Yesterday and Today CD at a fair price, as the current ones are very pricey. Yet this Revolver CD was excellent in both condition, price as well as delivery and packaging. Kudo's to the seller, and thank you

The music of the Beatles is timeless. I lost my entire record collection in a flood several years ago. It is good to find a way to replace these lost items for reasonable prices.

Superb collection. Many albums have one or two great tunes, which carry the whole piece but Revolver is loaded with at least 8 fabulous tunes. Wanted to add to my collection of Beatles CDs.

  A Revolutionary Classic

This album is loaded with innovative and classic Beatle sounds. This album was technologically so far advanced that the Beatles realized they could no longer perform live and produce the music that their fans had heard on the radio or at home. It would be nearly impossible to reproduce this new sound on the road. Fortunately, we can listen to this musical genius by playing the Revolver LP and relive some of the magic that is The Beatles.

... In her eyes you see nothing, no sign of love be(hind/yond) the tears, cried for no one, a love that should have lasted years... She said, "I know what it's like to be dead; I know what it is to be sad." And she's making me feel like.... Eleanor Rigby, wearing a face that she keeps in a jar by the door, who is it fo-or: all the lonely people - where do they all come from? Dr. Robert - take a drink from his special cup. Dr. Robert... Well, well, well you're feeling fine. Well, well, well, he'll make you - - Dr. Robert! She feels good, she knows she's lookin' fine. I'm so glad to know that she is mine... I feel good, in a special way, I'm in love and it's a sunny day - Good Day Sunshine!

What more can I say? Great music - got me through my breakup :)

Hard to argue with the quality of this product. One of the finest moments in the absolutely stellar career of the greatest band of all time. The price was a steal, even for ebay. Brand new, still in shrinkwrap all helped make it a must buy. It's all in the contents, though, and The Beatles deliver masterfully, hinting at all the masterpieces soon to follow.

  The beatles grow up

This CD along with Sgt. peppers lonely hearts club band are 2 CDs that should be in everyones collection.Revolver marks the beatles change from the innocent pop rock world of i wanna hold your hand into the world of social commentary and deep and important music both lyrically and musically. You can hear the changes in the songs as the band dove into the real world and expanded its song writing to tackle issues that mattered to them.Without a doubt the beatles are one of the most important bands of all time and i feel that this CD is their best recording, a bold statement to be sure but one i feel is justified.Take a listen and be the judge i think you wont be dissapointed.

This is an amazing CD. The first time you listen to it, it doesn't sound too great, but after a couple of plays it dawns on you how great it is. It's the perfect mixture of all The Beatles' music, from their classic style to their "groovy" psychadelic rock. F***ing amazing! Defineatly one of The Fab Four's best!
