Album Notes Camper Van Chadbourne includes: Eugene Chadbourne (vocals, acoustic guitar, banjo); Jonathan Segel (vocals, guitar, mandolin, violin); Victor Krummenacher (baritone guitar, bass). Recorded live at The Knitting Factory, New York, New York on May 15-16, 1999. In the late '80s and early '90s, Eugene Chadbourne teamed up with members of Camper Van Beethoven for a series of albums (selections of which are collected on USED RECORD PILE). THE REVENGE OF CAMPER VAN CHADBOURNE was the product of the collective's reunion in the late '90s as a scaled-down acoustic trio. The album is a lively mix of protest songs, improvisational forays, and tunes that revel in fractured romantic sensibilities. Guitarist and banjo player Chadbourne does the bulk of the singing; Jonathan Segel (also of Sparklehorse) plays fiddle, mandolin, and guitar; and Victor Krummenacher handles the bass and baritone guitar duties. Though numerous guests appear, the character that informs this collection most strongly is that of Chadbourne. His love of horror films, intolerance for social inequities, and deep-rooted interest in free jazz guide these songs.
