A solid survey of KMDFM's 1986 -96 output, RETRO culls some of the finest moments from the German industrial act's key albums, most notably NIHIL, ANGST, and NAIVE/HELL TO GO. Highlights of the 14-track collection include "A Drug Against War," a pummeling track that reveals KMDFM's simpatico with former Wax Trax! labelmates Ministry, and earlier tunes such as the ominous "Vogue" and the fierce "Liebslied- Liebslied," which both attest to mastermind Sascha Konietzko's penchant for spiky beats and jagged keyboard lines. Although the relatively concise RETRO may be unnecessary for devoted KMDFM fans, it serves as the perfect introduction for the uninitiated.
