I am 52....If you are old enough to understand life is full of lessons to be learned, the wisdom of realizing it's not all "about me"...the frustrations of that reality...the pain and hope and faith...if you just wish you could put it all in words and mostly you realize you can't fix it you can just go on.. get thru the days "for better or worse".Celebrate the joy and not sprial into the darkness of the bad the regrets. If you realize everyone has a story...and most do not end "Happily ever after"..That we can only go forward. If you are ready to have compassion for others if you expect it for yourself..If you are ready to admire this author for her honesty..Then this book is a MUST READ..

If you are looking for a "Tabloid" story you will be very disapointed...This story is about the heartache of the author saying good bye to her son..her journey with cancer the toll it all takes on her and her family..the side-bar of her husbands affair and all the attention the media has given it seems embarrasingly shallow in the light of lifes bigger lessons....If your still at the age or stage of life that your perfect and feel judgement is your higher calling then I don't think this is the book for you.

I am a cancer survivor...I am life survivor...I am so Thankful this book was written and I had the chance to read it..Thank You so much Elizabeth for having the ability to put it all in words.

This was the worst work of literary work I have seen. I rambles on about the loss of her son and does nothing to inspire or understand her situation. DO NOT BUY

I'm enjoying Resilience because it is heartfelt and in a style that is very intuitive. Obviously, Elizabeth Edwards is a very intelligent woman. It's quite interesting to read how she handled so much adversity.

I liked her acknowledgment that people change when a crisis happens. She is a good example of adjusting her "sails" when storms come her way."

I have a great deal of respect for Elizabeth and I am not even a democrat. The book is very touching about her life experiences and her family. She seems to be dealing with her challenges however, I was hoping that she would share that she had a deep faith in God if she does.

Resilience by Elizabeth Edwards is a from the heart reflection of facing life's adversities. The largest portion of the book deals with the death of her son.

I read a library copy and after reading it I knew I wanted a copy for a friend who recently lost her son to cancer. Buy it on ebay was the quickest and most reaonable way to get the book.

Highly recommend this book.

  Getting in touch with life.
Review created: 07/06/09

This book is a wonderful read! The transparencey this woman shows is so moving and her ability to express her emotions and feelings can help anyone get in touch with their own. For anyone who has gone through difficulties and suffering in life, we can use that help. Thank you Elizabeth, I feel I can call her that because the book makes one feel so close to her, for writing this book.

  Fantastic writer---tugs at your heart
Review created: 06/14/09

I was dissappointed---I had bought the book expecting more about her political work and assistance to her husband during his political adventure. It seemed to me that to much coverage was given to the death of her son. While this was a sad happening; I think she devoted toomuch time to it. Her writing method is a type that makes you feel that you are with her and exp;eriencing wat she is writing. I certainly favor that style; but I think it tugs at your heart for a large part of an outstanding book. My prayer is that she finds some way to go with writing without her fine sons death affecting her writing. I hope she continues writing. It can be an escape as well as an occupation. Good luck Liz.

  THE CHILD IS REAL
Review created: 06/08/09

I like Elizabeth Edwards, she has good common sense. She is covering for her husband and letting him slide. He fathered and innocent child, the child cannot help who the Mother is. He needs to accept the child as his and let her know her brothers and sisters.

I am sorry for Elizabeth's pain but I do not think she should have gone on all the talk shows airing her laundry.

John is a phony, Elizabeth is not. Her world has been rocked one last time and I am sorry it happened.

"Resilience" is a good name for this book
Review created: 06/08/09

Good book, well written and quite compelling most of the time. This gracious lady has faced more than her share of adversity and has come through tough times with strength and 'resilience'. I did expect the book to be more about her current troubles with husband John; however, the majority of this book discusses the death of her son Wade in an automobile accident and her resulting grief and the changes she made to cope. She also discusses at length her extended family, including her parents, and their resilience throughout their lives.
I admire Elizabeth Edwards, if for nothing more than her ability to face adversity and maintain the composure she consistently shows. She's an example for us all. God Bless Her.

  Reslience--liked it

She has a great narrative gift. Content was moving and thought provoking but flowed more like a well-written journal. If this was her intent she succeeded.
