Resident Evil: Apocalypse (DVD, 2004, 2-Disc Set, Special Edition)

The sequel to Resident Evil – in which a group of scientists and special forces get trapped in a giant underground facility overrun with zombies and mutants – is pretty much what you'd expect. After being captured by the Umbrella Corporation at the end of the first film, almost-sole-survivor Milla Jovovich (the only supermodel in the world who you can take seriously as an action heroine) wakes up in an abandoned laboratory in Raccoon City to find that the zombie-animating "t-virus" has spread to the surface. Half the city are already zombified and killing the other half, and Umbrella Corporation has sealed off the city limits and is planning to "sanitise" the area. Hooking up with a rag-tag group of survivors, Jovovich makes a deal with a rogue Umbrella scientist who promises to get them out of town as long as they rescue his missing daughter who's hiding somewhere in the ruins. Meanwhile Umbrella has its own plans for the lovely Miss Milla, involving a seven-foot armour-clad mutant called the Nemesis who's using the infested city as a training ground. Much shooting/fighting/exploding ensues, and - just like in the first film - the mysterious cliffhanger ending leaves things wide open for another sequel.

Probably because it's based on a Japanese video game, this movie isn't afraid to embrace the clichés that Hollywood's spent the last decade or so trying to avoid. Lurching zombies, machine gun-toting monsters, smarmy suit-wearing villains, hard-as-nails soldiers and a wisecracking streetwise black dude are all essential ingredients, as well as not one but TWO sexy ass-kicking heroines. While Jovovich rides in to save the day on a motorcycle and carries so many guns it's a wonder she doesn't fall over, Sienna Guillory (as tough bitch cop Jill Valentine) has the dubious honour of performing various athletic action sequences in a miniskirt and boob tube. Am I complaining? Hell no.

To be honest, it's really quite refreshing to see a movie like this in this day and age. Like the timelessly cheesy horror/action flicks of John Carpenter, the Resident Evil franchise throws realism and political correctness to the wind and just has fun pitting Pretty Girls With Big Guns against Ugly Monsters With Big Teeth. Be honest – unless you're a metrosexual poseur or a card-carrying member of the PC Police, you probably love this stuff as much as I do.

Finally we have a good Resident Evil movie. I was wondering if they will make it alot better after seeing the first Resident Evil movie and they have. It takes place after the finish of Resident Evil 1. It takes place in the city and you have Nemesis after the whole S.T.A.R.S. team, so they are basically in survival mood. A great movie to watch with some funny scenes here and there. I suggest anyone who likes RE or horror movies to watch this one.

J’avais déjà lu plusieurs excellentes critiques du film avant même de le voir. J’avais donc hâte de me faire ma propre opinion et j’espérais ne pas être déçue. Et bien non, je ne l’ai pas été! J’ai bien aimé le film qui, je crois, ne manque pas d’action. L’histoire est davantage basée sur le nouveau monstre à abattre, nommé Nemesis, mais pas suffisamment selon moi. J’aurais voulu en voir plus. Je suis resté un peu sur ma faim. J’ai joué au jeu vidéo seulement quelques fois mais je crois, si ma mémoire ne me fait pas défaut, que le film a su lui rester fidèle sur plusieurs points. Si vous êtes d’humeur à voir un bon film de zombies avec plein d’action et sans oublier la ravissante Milla Jovovich, Resident Evil est parfait!

En conclusion, j’ai apprécié le 2e film, qui en passant se termine en nous laissant croire à une deuxième suite, mais ma préférence va encore au premier.

The film takes place after the end of RE1, where Alice is leaving the Racoon City Hospital. The film then shows you the breif before of what happened to spread the infection. Imagine the city of Las Vegas completely swarmed with infected undead, and you have an idea of what to expect.
I really liked this film. It outdid the first in acting, story, special effects, and the like. It did, however, start to stray from the game storyline, and will continue to do so. I have no problem with that, but just realize that.

I enjoyed the CG effects and action. The director left the story line wide open, I don't know if there will be a third part or not.

This was a good movie. Good special effects, decent stunts, new but believable (within the Resident Evil world) angle on the storyline. I am a Resident Evil fan (put together much better than the run of the mill dead crawling about to eat the living for no reason and then just stop come sunrise, there are a lot of em.), I have played several versions of the games to death. I would not let my small kids see this or me playing the games, so maybe it's been awhile, but other than that I would buy this one. I was so excited to see it again I stayed up till nearly 2 Am multiple nights just so I could watch it (without my kids). I would love it if they made more movies like this.

The movies sort of strafe away from the series of games but don't let this mislead to thinking that they are bad. These movies are action packed (just like the games) don't forget to check out the first movie before this one to get the whole story line!

I like some zombie's movies. The first one caught my attention. I liked it and it left you hanging so i had to see the second one now i can't wait for the thrid one. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. I liked the hole movie. I'm glad i found it and got it.

It is like Fancy Final Fantasy.
Only with real human-being is used ;-)

Never played the game, but easy to understand the story.
And it is interesting how they come up with names like "T-virus".

Its action parts are well played and credit of this movie goes director, organizer, cameraman, edid, and actors and more.

It is nice to know the movie is such an extraction of entire essence.

You will enjoy this movie by overwrapping the fact happening around us...

i really liked the product. it has all the behind the scenes stuff. it relates back to the game. i did not dislike any thing about it but that is just me i love resident evil.

Awesome movie! I loved the first movie, so was prompted to buy the second just because of the that. I hoped that the second would be as good as the first, but it way out-performed the first and I was not disappointed one bit. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who has any interest in the horror genre. I would, however, recommend watching the first movie (Resident Evil) prior to watching this, because this movie does have reflections back to the first, and it just has has more meaning in knowing the history, especially at the ending. Now, I am hoping they come up with a Resident Evil 3!

I liked the 1st one and as I always do, if there is a second or third sequel I usually get them to complete the set. I thought both of these were good movies.

it was much better than the first dvd of the set. it had more action and good and kept you more interested and let an opening for a new dvd to continue the plot.

I REALLY ENJOYED THIS MOVIE. THIS MOVIE WAS WELL DIRECTED. LOVED THE FIGHT SCENES WHICH WAS ABOUT THE WHOLE MOVIE. GREAT ACTION. OVER ALL IT WAS A VERY GOOD MOVIE. I THINK IT WAS BETTER THAN THE FIRST.

I would never give a sequel this much credit, but after picking up so smoothly from the first, Apocalypse gets my vote. And what a change of pace from the first movie! This may be based on a game, but I never saw this story on Playstation. Most of all, Alice (Milla Jovovich) Gets a serious attitude with the T-Viral zombies, and with the few humans left in Raccoon City to help her. The big shocker was her infection, that she was to become the "Super Soldier" with a controlled contamination of the T-Virus.
Where the movie misses, is the ending is very predictable. All the heroes live somehow, Alice escapes Umbrella, and they ride off into the night to pursue evil. But it's a great ride getting there. Laughs, Scares,and heart pulsing action keep this sequel's story from biting the dust.
Milla Jovovich should be able to use this series the same as Angelina Jolie used the "Tomb Raider" movies... To marry and divorce any co-star she wants, adopt third world children, and all the while demanding $20 million+++ for her services on camera.

I did not know when I purchased the movie that my boyfriend and son would take such a liking to it. I myself am a big fan of the Resident Evil games. I recently bought an X-Box360, and am planning on buying Resident Evil 5 soon. I also plan on buying any and all of the movies that I can that follow in the series of Resident Evil.

This movie continues the saga of Alice. It has all the best parts of the first Res Evil and more. Its more in depth about how the Umbrella corporation has subjected humanity to the evils of bio-technology. With updated creatures and evil zombies as well as an evil scientist that runs the project at Umbrella this movie is a sure fire hit with the gamer crowd. True to the game and well done special effects make it a winner all around. Be suer to get the whole trilogy and feed your need to zombify yourself. Beware though, watch them with a friend. Unable to find them in your local vid store, dont worry, Ebay has everything you need at a great price.

I am a fan of the RE movie and wanted to add the second movie to my DVD collection. I think RE: Apocalypse was a good movie with Mila Jovovich as "Alice" I thought the chaos that took place after they opened the Hive and leaked into Raccoon City was great.

Ilove this movie and would recommend that all watch it. My daughter is the number one fan and i have gotten all the movies for her...they are wonderful
