This two disk game will provide you with hours upon hours of gaming delight. This game features elements which are consistent and true to the prior Resident Evil games, however, offers many improvements. But perhaps most importnatly, it's addictive and just plain old fun to play.

As far as improvements...you no longer have to continually find a storage box to manage your inventory - you now carry it all with you in an attache case. Any number of weapons can be bought from "merchant" vendors and may be upgraded at your discretion. The puzzles are not as tedious nor do they (or any part of the game) involve you going back and forth and around and around in circles over the same areas. This game in much more linear and is a true platformer. The zombies and other badies are much more animated and not so campy - making it so much more meaningful when you blow their head off. The mid-level bosses are completely new and unlike anything seen in this series before. Valuable items are easy to spot and you will have more than enough ammo if you are even the least bit conservation.

The story is simply "save the girl" so you don't have to put up with this mindless Umbrella conspiracy - T-Virus gibberish - although you still find the occsional pointless "report" laying about. Who reads those anyway. This game may be considered challenging by some, but I never felt frustrated or that technical flaws were to blame for my demise. This is one of those games that after you've played it for six or seven hours you begin to realize just how different "where you are now" is from "where you started" (creepy village, to gothic castle, to retro army base...etc). And finally, every single area within Resident Evil 4 is satisfying and unique. So whether you're being chased by a truck full of zombies, riding and sniping bad guys in a gondola, finding your way through a courtside maze, being stalked by a blind prisoner with razor sharp claws, or having dynamite thrown at you from a hilltop - you're sure to be experiencing hand cramping well into the night.

Resident Evil 4 by Capcom for the Nintendo Gamecube is simply put one of the greatest video games I have ever played. From the beginning, you are dropped into the middle of a isolated European village filled with crazed, blood thirsty, chainsaw wielding villagers; and the action never lets up. Whether you are walking through a brightly lit hall or a dark-blood-soaked sewer, the feeling of dread and terror is constant.

Although the game is called Resident Evil, it has very little in common with the previous games. Gone are the static camera angles, the frustrating controls and the lame zombie enemies. They are replaced with an over-the-shoulder camera which puts the action extremely close and hair-raising. The controls have been streamlined and are incredibly easy to master, the only fault is that you have to enter the menu everytime you want to equip something, I sometimes consider this a good thing; the action and terror are so intense that pausing to take a breath is a good thing. The enemies are no longer mind-less zombies, but intelligent assailants who communicate with one another, devise deadly traps and strategies. Luckily you have one hell of an arsenal to dipatch these foes; knifes, 9mm's, .45 magnums, sub-machine guns, sniper-rifles,grenade-launchers, shotguns, rocket-launchers and grenades. But it's not just about the weapons; The main character, Leon S. Kennedy from RE2, is back and he is a total badass. When you discover yourself out of bullets, just switch to your knife and finish up with one of Leon's many melee attacks, be it a roundhouse sending a group of enemies flying or a swift kick to the face shattering their skull or an awesome suplex where Leon grapples with the enemy and with a reversal comes down exploding the ememies head into the ground, spattering brains and blood everywhere; yes the game is extremely violent and graphic; it's great!

I could go on and on, but the point remains the same, RE4 is the greatest game of 2005, this generation, and maybe all time. 10/10, 5/5 A+....Perfect

This game is absolutely 100% engrossing. Yes it is grotesque, yes it is bloody, and yes, the first time I was stabbed with a pitchfork I flinched away from the screen.

The atmosphere of Resident Evil 4 is what makes it so great. You will feel the eerie darkness/rain/noises in your bones. The good thing is that there are so many different locations and tasks, one stage will never get old or boring. The plot is constantly moving and driving the game to its outstanding ending.

The Gamecube version of this game features flawless scene/rendered video transitions with minimal load time which, for the most part, are not noticeable.

There is no topping this it is one of the best games I have ever played! I bought online and I began to have a few doubts ( Because my parents kept saying '' if this is too violent...'') But my god this is an awesome game! The game at first surprised me with it's obscenely great graphics, probably some of the best on the PS2. The atmospheres are chilling and superb, but it is not really that scary... just ice cold. The game can be a bit hard at times, but after practicing a while the game won't seem as hard. That is until you beat the game once and you try it on professional mode. Professional mode is very difficult and will challenge you to high limits so good luck with that. Overall the gameplay is revolutionary, the graphics are some of the best on the PS2, the sound is very good, it is a valuable game that will hold a special place in any gamer's collection, and you will want to play it again and again. So go out there and get one of the best PS2 games..... period.

This is the first time in a long time where I've had a game that I wanted to play right after I stopped for 10 minutes. If you don't own this game, go buy a Gamecube and buy this game.

Excellent game! I'd be surprised if someones reading this and haven't played this game yet. A new look to the Resident Evil franchise.

You start off finding a bizarre village filled with strange characters. You finally end up finding out that theres something more to this place than meets the eye, and thats when the party starts. You have to go through some great puzzles and fight some mean bosses. I have a favorite scenario in the game but I won't give it up....just that you've never seen it in any other Resident Evil game before. Pick one up if you've got the $$$!! My favorite version is the one on the Nintendo gamecube because of the controls and graphics.

Please email me for anything questions if you like. Thanks!

  A Must Have Game
Review created: 10/07/06(updated 06/10/08)

Update: June 10, 2008:
Even after nearly 3.5 years in the U.S. this game is still incredible. I won the three major conso0les of this generation and I picked up the Wii version of RE4 in October of 2007 and played it through in two days (12 hours) and loved it! This game works very well with the Wii controls and I think it is the best version available.
----------------------
This is a departure in some ways from the other parts of the series when it comes to playing scheme, and game control. However, it is the improvement and new experience the series greatly needed. After playing the first few installments on Playstation and Dreamcast I was just blown away by this new game. I have played it both on the Playstation 2 and Gamecube and completed both. I have to say the Gamecube version is better in terms of the visuals but not by much.

The most important thing is that you play it... period!

Pros:
Provides 12-20 hours of game play
Visuals are excellent
A real third person experience
Weapons are all enjoyable
Story/plot is well developed
Good amount of suspense
Quite addictive all the way through
Cutscenes are nice

Cons:
Honestly, I don't have any

Finally it may just be me, but the Gamecube version is slightly harder in at least two areas of the game, otherwise both editions are fairly equal, other than some added content on Playstation 2.

When I bought this game I thought it would be another typical Resident Evil game. I couldn't have been more far off! The control scheme has been completely revamped from previous installments as it now uses a over the shoulder view instead of the traditional third person view, and the visuals are no longer pre-rendered. The game is fast paced and has more action than previous Resident Evil games, I highly recommend it for survival/horror aficionados, or any action craving gamer.

Best of the Resident Evil Series...
Review created: 02/11/06

Now available as a Greatest Hit on the Gamecube, it is a must-own title. Capcom has taken the series in a brand new direction offering an over-the-shoulder camera angle and full 3D enviroments. No more of those dreaded "door opening" scenes during load-times, and they've done away with the ink ribbons as well, meaning you can save as many times as you want. Also, they've made a "restart from continue point" which is very handy in situations where you know you have screwed up, and it usually just takes you right back to where you last loaded in.
There are many thrilling and nail-biting moments in the game that will keep your heart racing, and fans of the series will find that the new camera system fixes most of the tedious problems the past games have had.
It is worth mentioning that there is now a PS2 version of the game, but be warned, although it has a few additional features, the PS2 version has noticably poorer graphics, and I really feel like the Gamecube controller is perfect for the game. I prefer this version personally.
Fans, and new-comers to the series alike should try this, this is an absolute MUST-OWN title!!

Capcom's Resident Evil 4 has been highly regarded by video game fans worldwide. And this praise has been well deserved.

Everything about the game is excellent. The graphics are absolutely phenominal. The story is very well done. It is a nice departure from the typical zombie plot of previous Resident Evil games. The game can be absolutely terrifying at times, this is enhanced by great music and sound effects (the moans will drive you nuts). To be honest, playing this game is almost as if you are taking an active role inside a very well executed motion picture.

The controls are perfect, and very well thought out. The laser aiming is a breeze to get used to. Simple button combinations are used for the knife, and a quick 180° snap spin (which comes in handy quite a bit).

Another interesting part of this game is the replay value. After you have beaten the game, you unlock a ton of previously hidden features. Giving you something to work at for the future. This is different from many games in this genre, where you complete the game and that's that, nothing else to do.

Overall, I highly recommend this game to anyone who is looking for a truly unique and challenging gaming experience. I suggest you don't play right before you go to sleep.

Game on!

Resident Evil 4 is really one of the best games out there. Definitely a top ten of all time sort of game. The Gamecube has never glown quite as bright until now. Easily the best graphics on any current gen system. RE4's great storyline and top character get you involved and you won't want to stop until the end. Well over 25 hours worth of gameplay here. No zombies here, just freaked out people who were created too late to audition for "The Thing". Boss battles are super hard and super cool. You'll fight tons of realistic monsters and die over and over. Dying is one of the coolest parts because it's always different. Cutscenes are gorgeous and you actually get to play through a cutscene to determine the outcome of a fight. I had so much fun playing I even almost forgot to get scared because my shotgun was doing so much damage.
No multiplayer but the replayability here is great. Bonus weapons like Tommy guns, elephant gun, and rocket launcher all have unlimited ammo so you can shoot up the place as much as you like. Playing the special missions is also pretty fun because you can be Wesker or Ada Wong. You also get to try some different styles of fighting and weapons. The Resident Evil series is back in a strong way. Let's hope they keep breaking the mold. 5/5 (I'd give it a 6 if I could. It's on a whole other level baby.)

In my opinion, this is survival horror at it's best. Resident Evil 4 takes a different twist this time around, and they did a terrific jod doing it too. The "villagers" will have you running scared, and that is just the start of the game! Good control, great graphics, awesome story and more, get this game!!

Resident Evil 4.
This game is must for Zombie fans. In fact, you must play it, complete it and own it before your zombie fanhood is approved. Just kidding. Its very good.

I bought Playstation years ago and waited for game titles. I bought Playstation 2 and XBOX first, then waited for game titles to be released.

I bought the "Resident Evil 4" Gamecube Game first and then I bought the Nintendo Gamecube. I purchased the console just to play this game and I'm not disappointed, this game is so very good.

I'm familar with previous Resident evil games and for Res 4, there are no tricky camera angles or cement truck controls. I'm amazed at the level of control given to the player and in my opinion, the graphics and sound surprised me. The later PS2 release (which I purchased) is comparable with the gamecube version, more unlockable PS2 goodies but the gamecube version still looks great.
Resident Evil 4, a different level of enemy dispatching, storyline, gameplay and weapons leveling up.

I give it two thumbs up and say "Zang!"
Zombie fans should be able to enjoy this great and very playable game title (well... its all fun and games until one may keep getting run over by boulders, tough fights and/or sliced n' diced for a Krauser salad)

I bought RE4 around Feb. and i have to say this is the best Resident Evil made yet. They fixed the annoying camera angles of the previous RE's and changed the shooting from a fixed auto aim to a self presion aim of a red dot. And im not the only one who thinks what capcom has done with this RE is awsome look at the E3 2005 gamecube awards you will notice a pattern RE4 keeps popping up need i say more. Buy it and play it over and over its worth it. O yea i forgot to mention that the Extra miny missions after you beat the game are put together extremly well so you will have another couple hours of fun game play. This game alone is enough reason to buy a gamecube.

  This Game is Awe Inspiring!
Review created: 07/20/06(updated 09/12/06)
1 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This game is totally different from the rest of the series in so many ways. The other games were slow paced and involved segments of action that were few and far between. Resident Evil 4 changes the series because it's not a puzzle solving game with the ocassional monster popping out at you. In this game, you'll be fighting hordes of zombies and monsters non-stop. There are a variety of creatures to fight, including large monsters that make for great mini-boss battles along the way. While there are the ocassional puzzles that make you think, this game really is a survival horror with new dimensions. Some of the other improvements made to this game include the ability to aim your gun - in the older games, you could only point it straight, up or down. Now, you can shoot enemies wherever you want. Shoot them in the head and blind them (or blow it off), shoot them in the leg and knock them on the ground...also, if you shoot an enemy and stun them, you can do close combat moves like kicks and suplexes. Also, you can upgrade your weapons and purchase other items from the arms dealer who you will run into randomly through out the game. To earn cash, you can collect treasure that will be scattered about the levels - some really hidden and some pretty much out in the open. Also, inserted in some levels is a mini-game where you can collect trophies. While the mini-game isn't vital, it's still challenging and fun to play. The other difference here is that you will also have to protect the president's daughter in real time. If you don't protect her, she can be carried off by the enemies. The good thing is that you can tell her when to stop and go, she can hide in certain places...but she's basically helpless. The enemies in this title are better, there are a wide variety of new creatures to battle - some have their own little tricks you have to figure out in order to defeat them. The zombies are stronger, come at you in larger groups and can wield weapons like guns, bows and arrows, chainsaws, etc. The graphics are amazing, the music doesn't clash with the style and mood of the game and the story is great. The story follows many of the similar elements from the previous games, but with a huge twist. This game is also very long - two discs worth of play. There are some unlockables at the end when you beat it, so the game does have an above average replay value. Phew! After all that, it's no wonder GameSpot voted this as game of the year! Any fan of the series will enjoy this. Fans who hated the original games due to their slow pace should really give this a try because it's a completely 180 compared to the other games. This game alone is worth the price of a GameCube!

I LOVE this game! It doesn't have the zombies of RE1, 2, 3 and the 'others' but its still the same old plan- kill the bad dudes and save the kid. I am at the half way point and my husband is almost to the end and we both agree that this is an excellant addition to the RE saga.
I bought it on ebay because its the cheapest route for buying games. I have tried the local pawn shops and the games stores but their prices just can't touch the dirt cheap prices I get on eBay!!

Well first of all I must say, that I own and played all RE games till the latest RE 5, for those who have never played such games or are unsure of the purchase of Resident Evil 4, I must say, don´t worry! You´ll love it! I consider it as the best resident evil till now, because it´s not only a different twist on the series, but a great one, is full of action and you will find yourself more than once jumping out of your couch. Besides the replay value is great, you will have tons of fun and will be able to play it for months, even coming back after some time. So if you are looking for something great for the game cube, Wii, or ps2, then this is the right option, for me the second or best game of gamecube, for sure the best one on the bad game of Wii, and a great addition for ps2.
So don´t hesitate!

  Resident Evil 4 Review
Review created: 07/10/09

Hi there

1st off even before reading my review- You can check out the Big Guys ratings to this game- Game Informer etc

This game has received high marks, and is easily worth the time and money.

As a fan of the Resident Evil Series- I just had to add it to my video game library- If you know the storyline from the other games it helps add to the storyline in Resident Evil 4.

You dont have to know all the storyline- Knowing about Umbrella and the conflict they brought in past games does help enhance the game though.

This is one of those games you will love playing in the dark!

Starting out- You have just basic equipment, but as you progress further through the game- You can upgrade and receive better weapons.

Great replay value- Even after beating the game, you can start over again with all the upgraded weapons, money, treasures, and items you have acquired.

You can even buy ultmate weapons after beating the game over and over again, and completeing special missions and challenges will unlock new features.

Ex- How would you like to have unlimited ammo on certain weapons- Without cheating?

Thats a possibility as you beat the game over and over- The game gets easier as you get stronger. Making it easy to go through the game numrous times. Its fun too when you are powered up- You can fly through the game if you want, but its best to collect treasures and keep upgrading your equipment til you are maxed out.

I found it fun playing it over and over again.

And if that bores you test your skill on Pro. You wont be blowing through the game there.

Great assortment of weapons to choose from, and its also longer then most, if not all Resident Evil games.

Your 1st round through- You will easily put 20-25 hrs into. Probably more?

Its a great buy- Especially now that you can get it for less on Ebay!

Definately worth adding to your video game library.
