A Duplicate Title That Doesn't Belong
Review created: 09/27/06

This game, much like Resident Evil 3, is just terrible. First of all, it's just a straight up duplicate of the version that was originally released on PlayStation - what does that mean? It means that the graphics, sound, animations and controls are completely and utterly disappointing for this game. Fans who got to play the remake of the original Resident Evil, along with the GameCube only Resident Evil Zero, were treated to amazingly long games, with great plots, great presentation and virtually no flaws. So why would Capcom stoop so low as to just reissue the second and third titles without updating them to the next level of consoling gaming, adding some new features or at least giving something to differentiate this between the original PS game...

Honestly, this game is so short, poorly executed and poorly written that it's not worth your time. You can skip Resident Evil 2 and 3 and it won't make an ounce of difference. Trust me when I say that you're not missing much of anything when you skip this game - the monsters aren't anything worth blinking at, there's no true boss battles worth playing for and you're going to hate watching your character move like a robot. After giving us smash face titles like RE and Zero, there's no excuse for this recycled garbage. You will be bored, you will be regretting spending your money and you will be wasting your time. My suggestion....download this game as a ROM for an emulator - but then again, it's not even worth doing THAT for this lousy game. Resident Evil 2 and 3 leave much to be desired because they give you nothing to work with.

A must own game for any Survival Horror fan

*(Possible Spoilers)*

First off, as you should already know, this is an exact port of the Playstation version of the game. That means that the graphics, sounds, and overall design of the game are not up to Gamecube standards. Even so, this should not stop you from enjoying what is quite possibly one of the best Resident Evil titles out there. This title would rank right behind Resident Evil 4 and the original Resident Evil (Remake) in the series for sheer enjoyment and scare factor.

RE2 expands on the RE universe in a way that, arguably, no other RE game has. It introduces three major characters in the web of deception that Umbrella Corp. has spun: Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and Ada Wong. It also introduces William Birkin, one of the original developers of the T-Virus, and the mastermind behind the G-Virus. We also get to see a post-apocalyptic Raccoon City, overrun by the living-dead and various mutated experiments that run wild in the streets.

The gameplay is standard RE fare, with semi-clunky controls and the occaisional fetch-quest marring an otherwise stellar game. The Raccoon City Police department will soon become a point of semi-loathing on the player's part. (Why do I have to run all the way back here? Wait, who the heck puts death-traps in a police department anyway?!) Boss battles are few an mostly unmemorable, but it's the B-movie style plot that really drives the game.

There's not enough space here to really describe the chills you feel when you hear the zombies moaning outside and you've only got 2 bullets left in your gun. If you're a Resident Evil fan, you owe it to yourself to pick up this game. If you're a survival horror fan, you should definatly consider making this a part of your next purchase. If you like zombies in general and have an itch that can only be scratched by putting a bullet through a decrepid skull, go buy the Resident Evil remake, then buy this game. Either way, you wont be dissapointed.

I waited too long to buy this, as i always thought it was a direct port from the ps1 version of RE2, but in fact, I recently learned that it was a direct port from the dreamcast version of RE2, which is something altogehter different. PS1=32bit/Dreamcast=128bit so needless to say there were some serious upgrades done to RE2 for the DC version. which was directly ported over to gamecube. Money well spent! I plan on owning RE0-4 for gamecube. there's plenty of new stuff to play with in this version , if you haven't played it since PS1 days, so I suggest getting it.

Probably one of the best games ever and the bestselling Resident Evil title even today this game does not disappoint. Fun gameplay, this game will have you on the edge of your seat, or even standing the whole time, you have to think there's always a way through. The story is excellent, better than a lot of movies and novels, full of plot twists and downright awesome. The music is much better than expected, when your outside in this game the music and sound effects are EXACTLY how raccoon city would really sound, zombies moaning throughout the city and such, a feature even the newer Resident Evil 3 was missing. Overall no matter what system you buy this game for you owe it to yourself to beat them game once, although the game has great replay value.

A Great Game for resident evil fans
Review created: 09/05/08

Resident Evil 2 takes place shortly after the events that transpired in the original game. Rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy heads toward Raccoon City for his first assignment, only to find that the city has been overrun by zombies. Likewise, Claire Redfield enters the city on a quest to find her brother, Chris Redfield, who was a member of the S.T.A.R.S. team featured in the original game. You can play through the game as Leon or Claire in separate quests, but aside from a few areas involving secondary characters and some different story elements, the two quests are largely the same.
A great game for all resident evil fans however, this is nothing more than a port with no major improvements or contents of the original.
the good things about the game is that the controlers are better because of the fact that the gamecube controllers are more comfortable to play with.the game offers the arrange mode (which gives you unlimited ammunition and all of the powerful weapons right off the bat), so you can easily breeze through it in a few hours.
the graphics are the same with no aparent improvemnt other that if you have component cable you can have a better picture. A good advantage of this port is that you can play it with the gamecube or the wii for that matter which means is more accesible to old and new gamers. noot to forget the fact that you can cheat because of the action replay.however keep in mind that this game is by no means worth buying if you have to pay more than 30 dollars

  My Resident Evil 2 Review
Review created: 08/10/08

I bought this game because I have played most of the other Resident Evils for the GameCube. This one was interesting because it tells the story mentioned at the beginning of Resident Evil 4. I also found it interesting because it has parallel story lines. I didn't like the low graphics but I guess they were state of the art when the game first came out. I really wish that we had an attache case like in RE4 because it makes thing so much easier and the boxes are a little confusing to me. I got a little tired of back tracking to retrieve the items I forgot to grab. Over all it is a good game and I cannot wait to play the new one.

The game has a lot of action in it. There are not enough secrets in the game.
Also, it is hard to get an S (Superior) grade. The game is at least two hours
long. Otherwise it is a cool game to play.

My review of Resident Evil 2 for the Gamecube

Resident Evil 2,this is a good game. It picks up right where the frist left off. You play as two in this one first Leon Kennedy(who makes his evil debut in this one)and Claire Redfield(who also shows here for the frist time)Players pick which one to play at start of game and then play through game as that person once it is over you play as the next one.I decided to buy this game to complete my Resident Evil saga collection for the Gamecube.I also love that they added hidden game modes as well as hidden characters that were not in the N64 or playstation versions of the game(that I know of anyway)The game like all the others in this series as some of the best boss fights around as well as some very spine chilling moments. If you have ever thought about picking up this game or any of the others it this series do so you are in for an amazing ride. Another thing I like about this game for the Gamecube is that the graphics have been touched up and looks way better here than on the Playstation.

Resident Evil 2 for the Nintento GameCube

This s basically the EXACT replica of the original PS1 version (which believe me, is a GREAT things).
If you play the normal mode, you're in for an old time treat. Nothing noticeably different. I found that the easy difficulty setting is really quite easy, so just go for normal. The gamecube controller works well. The alternate mode is interesting. I haven't played it all, but it basically changes certain situations which creates different outcomes, kind of neat possibly.
The only downside is that this remake didn't update the graphics (if so, they're very very minimal). Compared to regular GameCube games, the graphics are quite weak. But if you're buying because you love the game, story, and the general ambiance of Resident evil 2, you won't be disappointed.

I don't care what any of you say. Lol. Resident Evil 2 is still a true classic. It may not have any type of upgrade, but this game is still very fun. Some people just see the present and future, but the past is still alive and is always "re-played".

Completely excellent. Unlike the playstation version, this is much better with loading time and extras. Sadly the graphics havent changed sadly but still the loading time has increased and also i have noticed that the speed of game has increased. Overall, A+++ I personally smoked the playstation version about 4 times and for reasons unknown.....hint hint... this totally felt like a new game. It is worth the price. And yes for the info....its out of print and in limited quanties.....get it while you can.

If you're new to the franchise then start with one of the best Resident Evil games. A big jump up from the mansion from the first game Resident Evil 2 is a true example of the sequel surpassing the original.

Classic Resident Evil, Great but Lacking
Review created: 06/12/08

1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I love zombies. They're awesome. I sort of hope (in an incredibly sick and satyric way) that the zombie apocalypse will happen. I understand the story behind the resident evil franchise and I feel it is one of the best zombie origin stories on the market.

Now it should be understood that this is a port, a direct port of the 1996 PSX game. I was a little disappointed to see that they didn't attempt to upgrade the graphics at all. Lord knows the Gamecube has the power to produce some good looking games. The voice acting was laughable at times. Very hokey. For example, everyone knew that they were zombies, nobody questioned that the dead were rising, they were just focused on collecting herbs to heal themselves.

The game is also very easy by todays standards. But it is very unfair to base a game off of todays standards. This is a game that will frighten you, maybe not creep you out, but it will cause you to jump more than a dozen times. The puzzles are still challenging today, and the game asks for a very intense attention to detail to find every piece to every puzzle. The game also gives you a two-for. You choose to play as either Claire or Leon. Once you finish their story, you start on the other persons with differences which you caused in your first game. Revolutionary for its time.

This game was awesome in '96. This game will only be awesome to real zombie enthusiasts.

I bought this because a list of best zombie games of all time had this listed first. The Nostalgia factor is definitely strong with this one. But if you're looking for the greatest zombie game of all time, pick up Dead Rising for the 360.

  Resident Evil 2
Review created: 05/01/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

There is a reason why Resident Evil 2 is considered by most fans to be the best out of the series. I could list reasons, but most everyone has played this game and already know. The Gamecube version raises the level of quality by enhancing the graphics and playing the 4th Survivor mode is just fun period. If you start shopping for a Resident Evil Game to play, picking Zero, 1, 2, or 3 are all great choices, but 2 is the biggest bang for your buck. It introduces the licker, is ghastly and a little more intense than the rest. It is also a great game for bonuses, and if this game won't hook you to hunting for the trilogy, none of the rest will.

  Resident Evil 2,The Horror's Back....sort of
Review created: 03/02/08(updated 04/21/08)

1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

First of all let me say that my introduction into the Resident Evil series was R.E.4 which is considered by many (so far including myself) to be the pinnacle of the series in spite of a few of its quirks. Also playing the Gamecube version of the original Resident Evil afterwards while not overall as good was still a fantastic game as far as giving me a good, girly scream inducing, scare. Sound design, graphics and sometimes unintentionally funny dialogs were what made these games good. Now it is true that starting with the best of the series unfortunately means that I have nowhere to go but down. However I didn't know that R.E.1 and 4 were the best at the time. That being said you can imagine my mix of astonishment and disappointment when I put in R.E.2 expecting an amazing remake like R.E.1 and get a slightly jazzed up PS1 game on the Gamecube. Now one might think that graphics aren't truly essential for a good horror video game experience and to them I'd say your right, to an extent. However the only (very) slightly upgraded graphics of R.E.2 on the Gamecube (arguably having some of the best graphics of the previous gen consoles) is like expecting to get a five star meal at a high class restaurant and receiving a plate of day old hamburger helper. The graphics make the humans and zombies look robotic the scenery look ugly and unfortunately the creepy atmosphere is diminished to the extent of me needing to turn off the lights and have Freddy Kruger standing next to me to feel scared sometimes. The sound design and surprise zombie attacks still are enough to make me jump out of my visually under-stimulated skin every now and then. The voice acting is still as funny as always due to it being so over the top it could jump over Mount Everest while still trying to be serious. As usual the game-play mechanics are slow and clunky and you never have control of the camera which I suppose is meant to aid in the fear that a super zombie could charge you at any time and you're caught unprepared with dwindling health and amo but after a while it is just irritating. You are also limited to the amount of items you can carry like weapons, health items, keys, amo, or even some piece of a puzzle. Right away this is annoying because if you get to a puzzle that requires an item you stored at the last save point then you need to run all the way back, get it and return to solve the puzzle while making the choice between health items and amo. I suppose that these are all elements that are standard for the series but even so they are annoying. The point I'm trying to get to is that this game is average. That being said if your looking for a game to give you a good scare then you could do worse but if a scare is what you really want then ignore R.E.2 and get something like Silent Hill 2. This is an ok game if you're a fan of the series (which I partially am) and if you are then I give a small recommendation. If you're just looking for any game with zombies then you'd get a better experience with Dead Rising, R.E.1 or heck just watch a George Romero film and play with the remote control. Now let it be known that in trying to write a review for a game I look at it not as a fan but as a level-headed person just looking for a game to play depending on interests so here is a preemptive "I don't care" to all the obsessive fan-boys (or fan-girls) and I will not be changing the score. It got an average score and it should be happy with that.
