Reliquary by Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child (1997)

What can I say about Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child? They are great story tellers and their books define any category I could put them in. I bought the book because I liked reading their other novels, like "Relic", which "Reliquary" is the sequel to. Their blending of history, fact, modern day life, and some fantasy makes great reading!
In this sequel, Margo Green is just getting over the horrific events that happened the previous year as a mysterious Museum Beast ravaged a gala opening. Then two bodies are found, one horribly deformed, locked in a embrace,in the mud off Manhattan. A string of brutal murders begin, but how are they tied to those two bodies?
Aided by Detective D'Agosta and FBI Agent Pendergast, from "Relic", Margo must face her fears as well as solve this deepening mystery using all her anthropological skills. Their investigation leads to burnt out warehouses, mysterious laboratories, long forgotten railway tunnels for New York's elite, and the underground lairs of New York City's homeless "mole people" until they come face to face with the answer to the Museum Beast's secret.
All in all, a very good read with a few surprises along the way. If you ever thought Anthropology was dull, think again!
