Amazing take on "pet overpopulation."

ALL shelter workers, animal control agents, and rescuers should read this book. Nathan has demonstrated first hand how to foster a "no-kill" nation. Interestingly, he is against mandatory neuter laws, and insists that the "only reason why pets die in shelters is because shelters kill them." He has shown that if the animal control/ shelters take the initiative to do what is necessary to keep adoptable animals alive, then the rate of animal PTS can essentially drop to 0%.
Following is a summary of his principals in creating a no-kill nation:
*get full support from the pound master (head of animal control)
*have regularly scheduled off site adoption events
*rescues work with the shelters/ animal control to pull out adoptable/ critically listed animals
*hold animals for more days, allowing owners more time to locate them/ or for rescues to save them/ or for them to be adopted
*have longer hours to serve work schedules of pet owners
*scan for microchips
*allow private foster care of impounded animals(including bottle feeding of kittens/ puppies, etc)
*have more volunteers
*TNR- focusing on widespread sterilization
*implement more low cost/ free neuter services
Nathan focuses on solutions. He has personally revolutionized animal sheltering standards and has prevented the needless killing of thousands of pets.
This book could chance our nation if all animal care providers read it and took it to heart.
