A boy with a full spirit and is as tough as nails goes out into the war to prove himself. Many probably even most army men do there job to serve our country but not all. Henry goes out into the bloody civil war for personal reasons. He soon discoveries that war is not like a fun thing but dreadful. Now he must settle down and do what he is told to survive and not try to kill the most people.
The whole thing starts out with a boy named Henry who enlists in the army for a thirst to kill and proudly get a battle scar. In the book he even says that I have just joined for strange reasons in that kind of awkward way. When he does join the army he finds himself afraid while still becoming a spiritual leader to others who feel the same way.
The whole book is about how the people in the Civil war felt and some of the different things that they had to experience throughout the time span spent there. It is also about the development of the boy who had went to the war in one way and came out a totally different person/ more developed. The storyline in the book was about one huge battle were they were focusing on one section of the battle where they were doing good while others were struggling and they needed to in the end help them to make the overall battle closer.
The genre of the book was historical fiction because it was talking about dates back in time but it was also inspirational because it just showed how these great patriots fought for our country and showed all there courage. I related this book a lot to my grandpa because he too was in a war and out of his group had been the only one to survive due to getting injured before the battle in Korea.
Overall I thought this was a good book and would recommend it to anybody who likes battle tactics and inspirations.
