This is an excellent movie - Hitchcock at the height of his skills. Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly - need I say more? The other reviewer did not review this movie, but reviewed a seller and I couln't stand to see a classic such as this with such a low rating. If you like Hitch and movies with lots of psychological tension and drama and suspense with entangled plots, you'll love Rear Window.

"Rear Window" directed by Alfred Hitchcock

I love this movie, and the special features on the DVD were very good also and were very helpful. It was also well within my budget - barely more than a single movie ticket.
This mystery is the forerunner of other similar movies and is now my very favorite Hitchcock film.
There is not anything about this movie that I do not like.
This film is a great lesson for anyone studying filmmaking for the following reasons, among others.
First, Hitchcock was a genius to whom details were important. This movie didn't need to be rated "R" because the material that would require that rating is implied. Hitchcock was a master of subtlety and the violence and sexual content as well as vulgar language was not something he needed to put in his films. Every detail of "Rear Window" is worthy of study because all of the details are important.
The casting was excellent and I can't imagine the movie being as good with alternative casting.
I bought this movie because I viewed it several years ago and wanted to own it. I would buy other Hitchcock films in the future and would recommend this DVD to friends.

I absolutely love this Hitchcock movie. Always have. I decided to get it on DVD so I would have a great flick to my collection. Chris Reeve was talented, but I just don't think this movie needed to be a remake. Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly were a great team. Thelma Ritter's a hoot!

Just love this flick!

This is an excellent movie if you like suspense and GOOD acting. It's not a long movie (90 minutes??)and it moves quickly, hence....the suspense.

Rear Window - Witty and suspenseful
Review created: 11/10/08

I've been meaning to watch Rear Window after reading about it in one of my film editing texts (the fact that it's a Hitchcock classic didn't hurt either), and it surpassed my expectations. It has a slow start, but once the conflict really starts to arise, I was eager to learn more!

This is a classic tale of suspense with all the humor that comes with a Hitchcock film. I love Grace Kelly and her wardrobe, and Thelma Ritter is great. Although James Stewart is a tad old to be the love interest, he is still terrific. I bought it so I could replay my favorite scenes over and over again.

I got the DVD in record time and it was in perfect condition. It's one of my favorite Alfred Hitchcock movies. I like the original movie much better than the remake.

hey that guy murdered his wife? or DID he??~ EXCELLENT~
Review created: 04/29/08(updated 05/11/08)

PLOT: INJURED man in a spends his days looking at his neighbors and "believes " he has witnessed a murder OR did he? classic HITCHCOCK AT HIS BEST~

in the sweltering heat of the summer and tv and Air Conditioning were not available yet the very HOT and bored reporter (JIMMY STEWART) has a broken leg and is forced to stay APARTMENT BOUND with little to do.. so he spends hours "watching" his neighbors~ being a vouyer is not something he is proud of but he quickly becomes 'addicted' to the thrill of watching~ his lovely lady friend GORGEOUS MODEL (Grace Kelly) who is madly in love with Stewart and spends her every spare moment with him helping the "injured" man recover! but he finds his "widow watching" repulsive.. until his tale of A SUDDENLY MISSING WIFE ACROSS THE WAY has her watching too~ Raymond Burr (Ironside and Perry Mason)) we see 99% of the movie from a distance... they make him a bit more sinister by dying his hair WHITE so HE IS EASY TOO 'SPOT' in the darkened apartment where his NAGGING wife is suddenly NOT there~ with the widows open due to the sweltering heat we HEAR all the conversations of every neighbor and quickly WE WANT TO WATCH TOO~ from the party girl, to the married couple to the couple sleeping on the escape stairs and Nagging WIFE the private life of all the neighbors become part of the plot.the NAGGING wife is there and suddenly is gone! she is an invalid~WHERE DID SHE GO?? THE suspicious movements of HUSBAND Burr make us feel he KILLED her? BUT "HOW" did he get rid of her? Thelma Ritter ~ as Stewart Nurse's gets involved with Kelly to help Stewart uncover the facts in this well done thriller~ it is NOT WHAT YOU SEE THAT COUNTS "IT IS WHAT YOU DON'T SEE".. HITCHCOCK is at the top of his direction when we are glued to every step of the movie and his clever PLOT has been used in many movies since (Disturbia) but this is THE BEST~ CLEVER mystery and fun PEOPLE STUDY~ THE PLOT FLOWS.

I GIVE IT A SOLID 20 OUT OF 10 FOR MYSTERY AND ROMANCE AND PEOPLE STUDY BY THE EVER GREAT MASTER OF SUSPENSE HITCHCOCK~

ALSO SEE PSYCHO~ THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY~ for more Hitchcock at his BEST~~

IF YOU FOUND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE~

  My 1st ebay purchase
Review created: 10/02/06
by:

I bought a DVD called "Rear Window" by Alfred Hitchcock. I decided to start my Christmas shopping earlier this year than I usually do. I automatically thought of ebay. Since I live an hour away from the mall and only get to go everyother week, I thought how convient than to shop from your own home. Plus, have everything at your finger tips. The mall doesn't offer everything on your shopping list but so far ebay does. I am addicted to ebay now and plan to do plenty more shopping from it, especially since my shopping experience was such a good one with the sellers I did business with. Even if I encounter a bad experience, at least I know there are all kinds of good sellers out there that you can count on. I'm very thankful for ebay, it makes my shopping a lot easier and quicker.
