REALLY ROSIE was a 1975 animated television special based on two children's books by the celebrated author Maurice Sendak. The story is about Rosie, a 10-year-old girl who lives on Avenue P in Brooklyn and knows that someday she's going to be a star. Clearly, Brooklynite Carole King, who had basically lived Rosie's life, was the only possible choice to provide the original songs for the show. As a soundtrack, REALLY ROSIE is instant nostalgia for anyone who was a kid in the mid '70s; this "hip, cool, with-it" cartoon could only have been made then. The surprise is that it also works as a Carole King album. Looser and more soulful than many of her records--downright funky in spots--the songs are those rarities, children's songs that appeal to adults. Highlights include "My Humble, Simple Neighborhood," the alphabet song "Alligators All Around," and most especially, the utterly delightful "Chicken Soup With Rice." This remastered version contains all of the songs from the show plus four extra songs dropped from the original soundtrack.
