I am a new mom as of August 07. This book was an easy read, funny, to the point and helped me relate and relax at times when I thought for sure I was going to lose it!

Very candid book about struggles of parenting
Review created: 12/14/08

This was a great book. Very easy read. The authors interviewed hundreds of women from across the country of all different backgrounds to find out how they "really" feel about being a mom. The book talks about everyday struggles that being mom comes with. Basically, all the things we all feel but don't want to admit to one another because of the fear of being judged as a parent. For example, do you secretly wish you had your own apartment, do you get competitive when playing games with your child, you turn on Noggin so you can check your email, you see going to work as a break from your kids. It really talks about how instead of judging eachother we should all help eachother because most of us really do go through the same things. It really gets into how we judge ourselves and think we are "bad mothers" because we didn't stay up all night making cupcakes from scratch. I don't think this book was meant to be a self-help book but more of an awareness of ourselves and eachother. I highly recommend this book.

  refreshing, honest and funny.
Review created: 04/06/08

This book was much better than her follow up book. I loved reading other moms honesty about their struggles to be a good mom. This book was humorous and was well written and did not make motherhood sound like it was all sugar, spice and everything nice 24/7. I would recommend it.

I was a Really Good Mom Before I had Kids

I bought this book for a friend of mine after I had read it at the library. It is a funny book on the life of a woman as a mom. It explains things that happen to a women in a way that most women feel and many will never admit in public. It shows you that you are not the only person going crazy with children, jobs, housework and a husband. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a good chuckle. It will definately make you smile throughout the book. The book will also have you saying, "Yeah, that happened to me before." A good read and a nice light hearted book.

I Was a Really Good Mom Before I Had Kids by Amy Nobile, Trisha Ashworth (2007)
is a really great book for those who have kids! It puts everything (motherhood) into perspective, which allowed for me to see that my feelings of inadequacy were unfounded; just a matter of life when raising those little "monsters". It is written in a light-hearted manner that everyone can understand. It's not a psychological/medical diagnosis book at all. I have already passed this book along to my "new mommy" friend, and recommended it to my workmates.

I was a really good mom before I had kids (Book)
Review created: 08/04/07

I like the different stories in the book and seeing the thoughts and feelings about having kids now opposed to what you thought you would do if you had kids. There is even a chapter for men/husbands there thoughts and feeling about everything we do or don't do. Not that really care at times, but it was nice to see what others thought about it. Over all I'm glad I read the book and would recommend it to new moms as well as one with kids who don't know how they are going to get through tomorrow.

I had heard about this book on t.v. and wanted to see if it was as good as they said. It was excellent! Real moms giving real stories about what it is like to be a mom and how hard it is! No bones about it...they held nothing back and the truth was told.
I would highly recommend this book to first time moms especially so you can see early on what you are in for, a true real account. It is excellent for any mom at any stage of her mothering.

Dirty Little Secrets are the Best part of the book!!
Review created: 06/04/07

I did like this book. Some of the things that the author suggests are just easier said than done. What I enjoyed the most about it were the "Dirty Little Secrets" that were shared every few pages, because I have a list of my own that would be liberating to share as well. I believe all mother do.

I originally sought out this book because I felt trapped by motherhood, and I just wanted reassurance that I wasn't the only mom out there who was not in love with being a parent. Still searching for that book that clicks.

This is the BEST book I've ever read pertaining to motherhood! It was so truthful and funny!! I related to every aspect of it and also appreciated the realness of it!! I am telling every mom I know about it! They agree to that it's wonderful after they've read it. I heard about this book in Cookie magazine and saw the authors on The Rachael Ray show! I couldn't wait to get my copy! Thanks!!
