Richard Lloyd first appeared in the mid-'70s with fellow guitarist Tom Verlaine in the band Television. After two superb albums, the band broke up and Lloyd embarked on a solo career. After two solo studio albums, Lloyd released this live set, REAL TIME, which culls highlights from his work with Television as well as his solo material. A lineup of two guitars, bass, and drums puts forth instrumental forays that recall Television (though without the jittery guitar of Verlaine), and celebrates influences that include Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, and more. This is smartly written material, full of surprises and subtle tensions. Six songs from Lloyd's previous studio album, FIELD OF FIRE, sound great stretched and pulled in live performance.
