Real Food for Dogs by Arden Moore (2001, Paperback, Illustrated)

I purchased this book because of all they hype regarding the dog food contamination and the constant list of recalled dog foods. I needed to find a proper dry dog food for my four legged kid, but also wanted to consider incorporating food that I could cook that would be healthy and appropriate for a canine. Sometimes, out of love, we offer our pets food scraps or whip up something we think they'll love, but in actuallity may not necessarily be healthy for them. By offering certain foods and seasonings we can do more harm than good. Thus, the reason I chose this book was because of the great advice given by veterinariams, they're approved recipes, which are so very easy to follow and you and your canine pal can dine together (except for the ones calling for certain ingredients for special diets). Very reader friendly, easy recipes, and you must check out "Fido's Fish Dish," can't wait to try that one, not for me, for my dog, well for both of us! Great book, reasonably priced, would highly recommend it to all dog lovers.

When all of the dog foods were being recalled I was terrified that something would happen to my dog. He's like my child. I decided I would start cooking for him instead of buying any more dog food. I found this book on ebay and my Jake has been in heaven ever since. He loves the recipes that I have tried, and especially the liver and corn muffin mix treats. I don't think I will ever buy dog food again. This is a great book. RSW Fl.

Most of these recipes are fairly easy, since I am not really a cook I liked that. Also most of the ingredients, like ground chuck and beef liver, are really cheap, and the quantity you wind up with is enough to last a while. It winds up being cheaper than kibble, and my large German Shepherd mix actually liked the results. (He is a very picky eater so this was significant!)

Some of the recipes are more complicated than I care to get involved with, but overall it is a good book. With all the press lately about tainted and poisonous pet food coming from China, the price of the book and the ingredients to make the meals are priceless.

This book was filled with fun recipes for your dog. If you a are looking for a book that provides veterinarian approved recipes, this is the best one I have read.

Instead of scolding your dog for begging at the table, pull up a chair and invite him to sit down! The book offers well-balanced, vet-approved recipes that use human food as a basis for delicious meals for dogs. All you need are everyday food items that you're probably already buying at the supermarket. A section on prescription diets is included for dogs that have special needs. Easy to read, clear instructions, great illustrations. Go ahead and pamper your canine companion.

I decided to buy it to get a birthday cake recipe for dogs only to find out that it has a recipe for cupcakes instead. Close, but it's not what I bought it for. Haven't tried any of the recipes yet though it seems it has a fair amount and selection. This book would be okay if you're interested in one or more novelty meals for your dog, not for any serious nutritional alternatives.
