Ray Guns Are Not Just The Future * by Bird and The Bee (The) (CD, Jan-2009, Blue Note Records USA)

After hearing short cuts from this CD on an NPR review, I decided I was intrigued enough to buy it--and I love it! Many of the songs are catchy enough to stay running through my head for days. "You're a Cad" makes me laugh every time I hear it. The instrumentals are lively and inventive. Inara George's vocal renditions are sweet, throaty, and have the raw quality found in some of Bjork's singing--but with an inviting and wickedly humorous character. I've got a family with eclectic, wide-ranging, and reasonably sophisticated musical tastes--and have been fascinated to see all of them really liking this CD. This is my first exposure to The Bird and The Bee--and I'll happily call myself a fan from this point forward.
