This hardcover book features creations by living foods chef Matt Amsden, along with beautiful photos, helpful tips on stocking a living foods pantry, and an inspiring preface about his personal transition to a 100% living food diet. The recipes includes soups (his forte' as mentioned in the cookbook), sauces, salads, appetizers, entrees, and even desserts. My favorite recipe is his Mock Tuna Salad - love it and can't get enough of it! Great wrapped in a collard green or tortilla with shredded carrots and lettuce or sprouts. Delish! The photos alone are absolutely gorgeous and these can visually inspire someone to try out the recipes!

Even though the high majority of the recipes are quite easy to prepare, for the beginnng living foods cook, some of the recipes may taste too garlicky, too salty (with his constant use of Nama Shoyu soy-sauce type seasoning) or too oily with an abundant of use of nuts and oil. Try some out and give them a chance - just adjust the seasonings to taste and enjoy. For those who are seasoned cooks, this cookbook is a good one to have on your shelf to inspire you to try out new techniques in a culinary field that is becoming ever-so-popular. It is a good living food reference, however, my recommendation is that this one should not be the only one that you have on the shelf.

His restaurant creates some of the most tasty vegan live-food cuisine found anywhere in the world - popular with celebrities such as supermodel Carol Alt and actor Woody Harrelson. RAWvolution is known for its weekly meal delivery service called "The Box" where his creations are prepared at the cafe and can be shipped all over the country. It is part of a joint venture with his wife called "Euphoria loves RAWvolution!" which is a raw and vegan lifestyle boutique and cafe located in Santa Monica, California.

Overall, this cookbook is beautiful, the recipes are tasty but only above average, and it is indeed a good reference for living foods cuisine. Compared to other similar-sized cookbooks, it is a bit overpriced even for a hardcover version. I recommend that you give other like-minded cookbooks a try and compare techniques since creating delicious living foods cuisine is indeed a true culinary "art."

I would appreciate a vote on this guide, if you found this informative and helpful or not, as your feedback helps me develop further reviews and guides.

Thank you for stopping by and reading my review on RAWvolution!

  Best Raw unCookbook!
Review created: 09/03/09

Of all my raw unCookbooks this is my favorite. When I first went raw this book helped me through the transition of just eating copious amounts of salads and crudite vegetables to venturing into the world of real raw recipes.

The book is well written, the ingredients are simple, easy to find, and most of the dishes rely on the same basic ingredients and spices, making it easy to always feel like your kitchen is well stocked and ready to prepare any of the recipes in the book without a major grocery trip.

Many of this book's recipes can be made with a blender and a sharp knife, though having a food processor and dehydrator enable to make everything in the book. Nothing is overly complicated in Rawvolution, making it great for beginner raw foodists and chefs!

You'll appreciate the creativity and ingenuity, as well as the familiarity of the foods. Chili, egg salad, tomato basil soup, tacos... They are your favorite comfort foods redesigned and raw. Pretty awesome. Er, Rawsome.

One important note: I have found the all the recipes are consistently heavy handed in the garlic, nama shoyu, and salt quantities. I cut the quantity in half (sometimes even less) and then work up from there if needed (usually not). For example, if the recipe calls for 3-4 cloves of garlic I use 1, 1 tsp of sale I use 1/4, 1/4 cup of nama shoyu and I use 1/8 c and 1/8 c water to dilute it. Otherwise I find the dishes much to overpowered.

Only recipe I didn't like? The celery soup. Everything else was awesome.
Some of the desserts were a little sweet and required some tweaking. The chili is my favorite recipe to date of all my books!
