Synopsis
The Boatwright family--Mitch, Patsy, Tara, and Jase--picked the winning Georgia lottery ticket, and they thought that was a good thing. Turns out, however, thanks to an innocent slip of the tongue from the cashier at the convenience store where they bought the ticket, a no-good psycho named Shaw and his sidekick Romeo decide they deserve a cut of the winnings. In his third book, George Dawes Green takes this set-up and runs with it. His story is tense and suspenseful, but also full of an infectious humor. Shaw and Romeo are unpredictable guys, frightening in one breath and oddly sweet in another. They threaten violence to get a share of Boatwright's lotto gold, but then Shaw announces he's going to give his portion to charity. This catches the attention of some impetuous Bible-thumpers and all bets are off. Selected by Publishers Weekly as one of the 100 Best Books of 2009.
