Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (PlayStation Portable, 2007)

I've been a big fan of the Ratchet & Clank series since their first game back in 2002, playing the first three games, and was eager to try out this new addition to the series on PSP. The game started off like all the others, a few prerendered scenes and then taking control of Ratchet, with many of the moves and weapons from the previous games. The story was rather basic, and funny at times (not nearly as funny as "Going Commando"), and the thrill of gaining new weapons, armor, bolts, and skill points was certainly there. As I played through the game, I was constantly impressed at how close this portable game was to the console versions, up to the end.

Summary:
Graphics --- A- (vast worlds, many new weapons & special effects, close to the PS2 versions, but no thruster-pack boooooo)
Sound --- B+ (great voice acting, weapons sound cool, music is subtle and fitting)
Controls --- A- (probably the best that could be done with the missing triggers and right analog stick, lock-on didn't work well with multiple enemies)
Gameplay --- A+ (many planets to explore, good amount of Clank mini-games & sidequests, skill points are back, as are titanium bolts, lots of cool weapons, gadgets and armor)
Story --- C (story is too basic, and doesn't seem to add anything to the series, though the cutscenes are done well, shorter than the console games)
Replay Value --- B+ (challenge mode is back, with 20x multiplier, more enemies, and Titan Weapons!!!, I haven't completed a second play through yet)

Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters is a well-produced game by newcomer "High Impact Games" (with help from Insomniac), with many of the great things from the PS2 slightly toned down and crammed into a portable. If you are a fan of this series, I strongly recommend that you play this game and any others in the series, even newcomers will enjoy this spoiler-free platform/adventure/shooter all-in-one game.
