Even better than season one!

Anyone familiar with this series shouldn't be disappointed with the 28 episodes from season two. There are hardly any that only envoke head shaking and rolling eyes. I think the series hit its stride in this season as the plots and characters seem more realistic and mature. The Germans can actually hit the broad side of a barn now as the Patrol's jeeps are occasionally seen doing flip flops after being hit by enemy fire. Also every member of the Rat Patrol gets shot at some point. The war seems to be taking a greater toll on the characters in this season. Troy's nicotine habit has noticably increased, Hitchcock's trademark smile is seldom seen, Moffitt gets treated more like the second string, Tully disappears for 4 episodes, and Dietrich's darker side emerges as we learn he is capable of killing one of his own comrades. Although requests were voiced, the powers-that-be still did not provide German translations in the subtitles, so unless you know someone who speaks the language, good luck figuring out what the bad guys are saying. My only disappointment with this DVD set is I know there will not be a season three to look forward to. One can only imagine what the series could have become if it had expanded into a one-hour format as was planned for the following season. But I am just happy to know I have a permanent reminder of childhood TV viewing days around the house now.
