This a very good entry level USB/LSB for the one who is fairly new to cb's and do not have a ham license. It has AM/USB/LSB with frequency counter with instant channel 19. It has excellent recieve, and transmit is excellent if you use just the stock mic(stock mic is a ceramic element that is one of the best sold with a radio). The USB/LSB can slide back and forth on transmit; but once it warms up it does a great job. The knobs are very tactile and easy to use; it has the same board and very, very similar to the Galaxy 949,959(dead ringer inside). It tunes up very nicely to around 9w deadkey, and peak of 21-22w without cutting or jumping anything within the radio. Other modification are available for this one including a dual final mosfet. Be very careful of this one for it will create a lot of heat in the chasis and over long winded talkers and length of time will bake the parts in the radio(fans are very rec.). It is very similar in operation to the cobra 142-148, but with a lot better quality and alot easier and better tune results. The faceplate is cool; the only downfall is the side mic for some and its large chasis; but for the quality and excellent recieve(one of the best) and great transmit sound especially with an echo board installed-makes sound like a big radio. But if I were to buy one a full retail I would probably buy something different, but I'm a little more serious about radios. The General Lee/Connex 3300, Voyage VR-9000(same as Galaxy 88), but these require license. Good luck
