Shipwreck Fever

Shipwreck Fever is what you will get after reading this fantastic book on the early days of Floridian, and Carribean treasure hunting. This book covers the ins and outs of treasure hunting and the men that put the sport on the map. You will be introduced to what at first glance looks to be a band...or perhaps a band of hippies (yes the book is illustrated) that turn out to be Florida's rag tag band of Antiquities Inspectors that shaped and mapped the great Florida treasure hunts from Mel Fishers finds to the modern day beachcomber. Tommy Gore, author of the book and one of this band of Antiquities inspectors was hired to oversee salvage operations around the Florida coastline. Tommy got his start by stumbling upon world reknowned treasure hunter Art McKee while diving off Pepper Park Beach in Ft. Pierce and was hooked immediately and forever on the great rainbow chase for the pot of gold. This book is a fantastic read for the first time metal detector owner as well as the experienced scuba diver that wishes to understand the risks and rewards involved when mining the seas for booty. If you arn't flying a Jolly Roger on your halyard after reading this, then you probably didn't enjoy it as much as I did...this is one of those books that is hard to put down.
