Second film produced about the Entebbe raid on 7/4/76
Not as good as "Victory at Entebbe". Both films are "Jerky"--transition from one scene to the next is ragged. "Raid" lacks the visceral quality of "Victory". After reading Operation Thunderbolt, I think the essential aspect--the tipping point--of deciding to launch the raid was lost in both films. The pre-raid preparations received more coverage in this version. Some of the scenes of the troops during the final hours before the planes landed were amateurish and, I suspect, not representative of what actually occurred--the same applies to the briefing scenes in "Raid". The combat scenes in "Victory" are more realistic.
What may be lost to many viewers is that the raid occurred during the greatest celebration of freedom in our country in 200 years. As well, Israeli commandos pulled off one of the most significant hostage rescue operations in history with a minimum loss of life.
