I don't want to sound like I'm over doing it, but this is really a LIFE CHANGING BOOK! I mean it. Brennan Manning presents to the reader things most people never hear in a church on Sunday mornings. He clearly explains that regardless of who we are, or where we are in life, or even what we've done, God loves us. Sure, you say. I already know that. Well, the way it is presented, this book is so simple, yet so profound. Manning is at times funny, and sometimes serious, but always striving to get the reader to stop beating themselves up. We all do it. We all think that because we've done this or that, that we're not worthy of Gods love. Wrong answer. God IS love. He is incapable of anything but LOVE, and Manning explains this so well. This is the book to give as a gift to someone who may be struggling in life (don't we all), or new to their faith. Either way, this book opens the readers eyes to just how much we are loved.

The simple truth of God's grace is amazing but Brennan Manning sheds the layers of human conditions that have been placed on our lives and blind us from this amazing truth; we accept God's grace in theory but lack the practice of grace in our own lives. I have read this book almost every year with friends and alone for the past few years. It's one of those books that confronts you with simple practical truth that makes you uncomfortable but draws you closer to what life was intended to be.
I encourage you to read it and share with others too.

This is a great book at a good price! I would recommend this book to everyone! It is rather expensive as a paper-back in the stores, but buying it used online is a solid option.

Absolutely wonderful book. In a world where the church teaches us to "look" good, Brennan describes a church full of cripples clinging to Christ. Great commentary on the gospel of grace

I had to buy this book for a Bible class I'm taking this semester. We haven't read it yet but I've heard great things about it and I got it for extremely cheap on eBay!

  Great Book
Review created: 08/04/08

As a Christian, this book has had a dramatic affect on my life. It is saturated with the Grace that is to be found in the person of Jesus Christ. It is a lifeline to the broken and bruised, crushed and despondent Christian who is uncertain of God's uncompromising love for us through His Son. The Bible says, "He who has The Son has LIFE"... Brennan Manning's writings reafirm the foundation we have as Christian "sinners" who still struggle with accepting life on life's terms. I have given away many copies of this book over the years hoping to shine a light in the dark night of the soul. If you are a follower of Jesus Christ and you still find yourself struggling with sin and self-worth, doubt and despair, I highly, highly recommend this book!

Wow! Great book. If you feel like you stand out in a negative way in this world, this book will surely lift you up. Brennan Manning is not afraid to write the truth. That is what we all seek and if you want the truth, with exception to the only truth of the Bible, this is a must read. It will change the perception you have about yourself and lead you in the direction that God has purposed you for.

It was a gift for my son. Very enlightening and was just what he asked for. There are some other books by this author and I would like to read those as well.

I never received my merchandise from this seller. I tried many times to contact the seller to resolve the situation and never got a response. So not only was the service less than poor, there was absolutely no attempt to correct the matter. Very bad experience.

I love the book because Manning does a great job of explaining grace through stories and personal experiences. A great book for anyone looking for a new perspective on about Christianity or for group study.

  I love to read
Review created: 03/06/07

I purchased this book because the book club that I belong to decided to read and discuss it. The book had some good points to make. A couple of the ladies felt that the author was occasionally putting down Catholics. My favorite chapter was "Ragamuffins" and the point that Jesus spent most of his time on earth with ragamuffins. He ate regularly with the down-trodden, the poor, the diseased, the hurting. Jesus accepted that those who really needed God were the hurting, not the healthy.
