Roger Waters Radio K.A.O.S. USA 1st Pressing CD

For some reason, Ebay's Autocomplete for this and other Roger Waters CDs has Ron Geesin's name attached...Just for the record, allow me to be clear...The only albums Ron Geesin contributed to related to Roger Waters was Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother and the soundtrack to the Motion Picture "The Body" with Roger Waters...Ron Geesin has several solo releases of his own and is the Avante Garde Master of Electronic Music...He is an excellent Artist and I highly recommend listening to Ron Geesin's music...

On to Radio K.A.O.S. - a concept album of the relationship of a paraplegic boy who communicates through Radio Waves and a DJ named Jim from a ficticious California Radio Station...This was Roger Waters' second solo outing after the Pros & Cons of Hitchhiking of 1984...Some would say that Radio KAOS is actually Roger's third solo album, with "The Final Cut" being more a Roger Waters solo project than a Pink Floyd record...

In my opinion, this is a very excellent album from the late 1980's, accompanied by a concert tour of arenas here in the US holding about 15,000 fans each...This was around the same time as Pink Floyd's 1st Momentary Lapse Tour of similar sized venues...Roger's KAOS Tour wasn't as well publicized as Pink Floyd's and didn't sell out very many venues...

Radio KAOS features The Bleeding Heart Band, which includes Graham Broad on drums, Ian Ritchie on Keyboards and Andy Fairweather Low on Guitars, Mel Collins on Saxophones and even Paul Carrack (from Squeeze) singing vocals on "The Powers That Be"...Clare Torry sings vocals on "Home" and "Four Minutes"...Remember that Clare Torry sang those haunting vocals on "The Great Gig In The Sky" from "Dark Side of the Moon"...

I bought this to replace the Vinyl Album that I recently sold here on Ebay...Radio KAOS is a relatively short album in terms of a CD, running a total of 36 minutes and 37 seconds...This album was made back when the Vinyl Record Album was still pretty much the standard, since compact discs were still a relatively new format at being only available since 1982/83...

Of all of Roger Waters' Solo efforts, this rates above Pros & Cons, but under Amused To Death (from 1992)...My favorite track is "Who Needs Information?" and has the most power in this conceptual cycle...This is a socially conscious, yet entertaining Rock Album from Pink Floyd's former bassist and creative genius...

Finally, the best part of the KAOS Live show of 1987 was Roger Waters recreating a Nuclear Blast at the end of the song "Four minutes"...Roger made the concrete floor vibrate under the audience's feet in Reunion Arena (Dallas), leading up to the Brightest flash of lights I have ever experienced...Coupled with shocked silence, it was a chilling, eerie and sobering effect, to say the least and is one of the most memorable concert moments of my life...

  Roger Waters Radio K.A.O.S.

This is written as a story, and not just a collection of songs. I do like all the songs, but some can be a little overbearing with background sounds at times. This does not have the sound of any Floyd albumns.(including The Wall, & The Final Cut also written by Roger). K.A.O.S. does have an '80s sound to it. This is for definitely for those who enjoy Waters solo work, but not my favorite.

  Roger Water - Radio K.A.O.S.
Review created: 02/17/08

This recording is an example of how Roger Waters pours his song writing genius into a small silver CD. The story he creates for this Album is musically and lyrically stellar. You have to listen to this one from start to finish to get the story and the flow. There are however, tracks that can stand by themselves. "Home" is probably my favorite because of the artistic way he depicts how "home" is different for everyone. The way all of the songs mesh makes me remember all of the things I loved about the Pink Floyd albums. As awe inspiring as Gilmour and Wright's composition is, it is something their work has been missing since the split. This album is a terrific work of art and a great addition to any audiophile's library.

  The Powers That Be
Review created: 10/19/07

Powerful concept album about fear, terror, the media and most of all control. After all these years, this album is more relevant than ever before. I admit that this one is a little self indulgent but after all, isn't that why we like the music of Roger Waters? 5 Stars.
