A SLEEPER CLASSIC - LOST BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

I remember seeing this film when it first appeared on cable television back in the early 90's (release date was 1992). It featured a cast of actors that were unknown at that time, with the exception of Lorraine Bracco, who was to be making her break out jump from television. AND the narative talents of a "barely established" Tom Hanks. Included in the cast are child actors, Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings) and Joseph Mazzello (Jurrasic Park). Also in the cast (though the camara works hard at keeping him facelessa) is the youngest of the Baldwin brothers, Adam Baldwin (Independence Day). This story delivers a very powerful message that deals with children as victims of child abuse in the 1960s. It's written beautifully by David M. Evans, as memories as seen through the eyes of a child, which includes fantastic dips into a young boy's imagination, while dealing with the harsh reality of an abusive alcoholic step father. This movie could be released today, and it's quality and craftmanship (Directed by Richard Donner) would not be out of place in our contemporary cinema. Except for the hairstyles, which sometimes glare of the 1990's trends. Buy this DVD, you won't regret it. Especially if you have young ones and want to spend the afternoon watching a great movie with a lovely discussion afterward about parent and child releationships.
