A young woman is injured in a horrible motorcycle accident. She is taken to an experimental plastic surgery clinic where she is "fixed" like new. Of course she aso has a weird thing growing out of her armpit - how lovely! She cannot eat normal food but uses her new armpit friend to feed on humans - jeez I wonder if they will come back in style soon? The people she feeds on foam at the mouth and go crazy. Soon it is a full blown epidemic and all over the news - which the girl never manages to see. So the police are looking for patient zero aka armpit girl.
Great movie with weird and crazy plot. If you've seen Cronenberg's other films I do not need to say more. You either love his work or loathe it, there is no in between. I love it. Very original, the acting is pretty good and the low budget look fits the story's raw creepiness. Highly recommended for horror fans!

The commentary track and interview are nice features, and Cronenberg is generous about sharing his personal insights on life and cinema. Apart from the cheesier aspects of this project and one minor visual distortion, Rabid is truly ahead of it's time, and a valuable lesson in wrighting and directing from one of the masters. RabidA film very much in the vein of "Night of the Living Dead"...Like most of Cronenberg's early works it was dark, grainy, murky......and deeply disturbing. If you're looking for today's souless high tech gore and FX, this isn't the film for you, but for the true horror fan.....enjoy.
