RCA RT2380 Theater System

This was a very lucky bid, got the 5.1CH RCA Home Theater + Speakers for $59 + shipping from a seller with a few Negatives but mostly Positives. This is not quite leading edge equipment, 5.1CH, but at the price it's an excellent find for me.

I've rated it as Good because the setup was not quite intuitively obvious for me. The setup was complicated because settings 'take' within a second or so of no button-pushing activity and by a tiny front-panel display. So, for a gray-haired person who has to look for a couple of seconds to see what's going on, it was confusing when stuff happened & changes 'took' while I was still looking. It took some careful re-reading of the manual to get the sequence down pat.

After some trail & lots of errors I got the moves right and had the receiver working with the BluRay DVD, the TiVo, & the antennae for AM & FM.

This is a relatively low-powered system, but the sound quality & 'surround' is excellent in the room where it is used, which is about 15 X 25 with a high ceiling. The speakers are small & inconspicuous, which was a requirement for us, but they are very heavy and high quality and make an excellent effect on the couch where we potato.

It has both optical and coaxial inputs for digital audio and that worked fine for me since the TiVo has optical audio out & the DVD player has both and coaxial out. This allowed me to connect all the components 'directly' without going thru one another or using any extra switches. And, the Logitech Harmony universal remote works fine to replace all four of the remote controls.

For somebody quicker witted, and who already knows the devices & terminology involved in Home Theater audio, I'd guess that'd rate the unit would be as excellent and the setup would be quick. For me, fresh from the frustration of setup, I'd give it a Good ++ if I could...
