R.C. Pro-Am (Nintendo, 1988)

Do not be confident just because you made it through the first 20 races without using one continue! There is a level, that you would think would be easier than those oil slicks, moveable barriers, and watered-downed tracks, but this one has met my match. If you played this game constantly, you know what I mean. I'm talking about the course with very long straightaways and no obstacles. EVERYTIME I GET TO THAT LEVEL, IT MAY BE 24, THE AI COMPUTERS HAVE OUTPACED ME EVEN WHILE DRIVING PERFECTLY.

HEREs the HINT: Upgrade your vehicle by knowing where the items are. There are two ways to do that: either collect flawlessly in each level the N's that spell Nintendo at the bottom of the race screen. When spelling out the word "Nintendo", you get a transformation of vehicle, from trucks to SUVs and finally, Indycars. It will take you 16 levels to do that in, if collected N's in every race.

So, boom, now you have the Indy car. Now, it needs upgrades, and FAST. Level 17 onward, collect the upgrades that include the Slick tires, Turbo Charger, and Engine strengths. These temporarily boost your vehicle with speed upon running over them, but it will also show your upgrades on the screen just before the race begins. The yellow boxes indicate how much you can upgrade your car on that screen 4Xs. So that means, before that speedy level, 24? you have 7 or so chances to collect each upgrade (only need 4xs) My problem is I usually complete the Nintendo logo when its the level before the speedy level. Therefore, all my upgrades are gone when going from Suv to Indy. Same is true from truck to Suv.

SOLUTION: either way you need to memorize where all N's are to either get them all, but just getting them all will not upgrade the machanics of car, just the vehicle. Planning on getting the N's and then you need to memorize where the upgrades are and hit them by running over them.

Or...

...do what I tried to do. Avoid the N's altogether to keep opponents from upgrading, a task I haven't been able to perform, for sometimes its hard to avoid hitting the N's. Avoiding the N's though will keep your Trucks', or SUVs' full upgrades, (assuming you hit them on the track) Then your on a level playing field with your opponents.

Hope this helps for those who cannot get pass that particular fast level. Otherwise, very fun to play with that arcade type sound and precision track turning.

You also get a trophy for each race you place in. (Gold 1st, Silver 2nd, Bronze 3rd) It is easy to control the race car and you are competing with 3 other cpu controlled race cars on each track. Don't expect to come in first all the time because the other race cars are very competitive. If you don't place in at least 3rd place, you have to continue.(twice only). This game is good for the young and the not so young. RC Pro Am will keep you entertained for hours. A great buy and must have!

We decided to purchase this game because of sentimental reasons. We miss the old games that don't involve blood shed etc. Our 6 year old girl can play without worry that she will be influenced by game content. My husband loved the game as a child also. It's just good family fun and we have decided that collecting the old nintendo games is an inexpensive and fun hobby.

one of the NES classics. Great game. The ONLY thing i say that is negative is that I wish it had a 2 player option. Overall, this is a timeless classic that is a must have for any classic gamer.

You will not find a more fun and Challenging racing game on NES. I need to get to hundred characters so I continue to type so that I am sure that I make it.

Haven't played this game since I was a kid. Old school game. I loved playing it then and I am sure nothing will change about that now. Thank You very much for the opportunity to purchase this game from you.

In my opinion, this game was one of the BEST titles for the NES. It's a classic car racing game, using r.c. cars. The Bonus is you can aquire upgrades to your car as you race. The Jackpot is you can also aquire weapons to destroy the other opponets.

As you progress thru the tracks, the weather varies from track to track. And your upgrades continue to add up. You also gain trophies when you place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. These total up to your score.

You begin with a little truck that doesn't handle too well. Try not to pass up too many upgrades, they help tremendously. As you progress you will get better vehicles that are easier to drive. Don't waste your ammo either...New ammo is scattered around the tracks, but only a few per track.

The A.I. is challenging and competitive. Your opponets will run you down......Smash you against the wall......And generally get in your way. There's where the weapons come in handy...When they get in your way......Blast them with a missle......When they're sneaking up behind you.....Drop a mine.....

One notable thing is that this game operates in a semi-3D mode and it is alittle difficult to control the cars at first. BE PATIENT. When you get to a turn,......Don't "push" left or right......."tap" instead. Tapping the left or right will turn the car a few degrees at a time. using this method, you'll be running over them in no time.

This title is worth adding to your collection. Worth every penny. CmdrNoval

Brings back great memories! It's neat to see how far technology has come with graphics...but it's still cool to turn back the hands of time and play games like this!!

This game was just a classic look back to some old school playing. It was a great blast to the past. Just as I remembered it.

This might be the perfect racing game! You have the ability to upgrade and improve your car, obsticles, 3 fast opponents and so much more. The game goes from 4 to 5 stars for me because of the ability to shoot rockets and drop bombs! Now that's racing!!!
