Quilting 101 by Creative Publishing International (2003, Hardcover, Spiral)

As an inexperienced quilter (have only tackled 2 so far), this book is BY FAR the best I've purchased/seen! The illustrations and photographs are large, clear and very detailed - easy to understand. Step-by-step instructions that each refer to a specific photograph, leave very little to the imagination.

The book progresses from sewing machine basics (with photos of seams, tension, threading), supplies, pression instructions (cleared a few things up for me!!), fabrics and selection, the Rotary cutter, binding, and then goes into assorted sewing projects, with variations on color and themes.

The projects are clear in terms of exactly what supplies and how much fabric you need, accompanied by very step-by-step specific details, and matching color photographs. Patterns and templates (for duplication) are included in the book also.

A great feature of this book is that it is a hard-back SPIRAL, which means you can easily open the book, and it stays flat, AND, you can make copies of templates, without breaking the binding

I'm teaching myself, with respect to quilting, and THIS BOOK is the best I've seen so far!!

I purchased beginners quilting books for my sister-in-law and this one is larger and has twice as many pages, however I can't say it is better than the other. This book has more photographs and definitely for a visual person while the other does have photographs but the detailed wording I find more to my liking. The other book by the way is Coats & Clark's "Quilting for Beginners". A matter of preference I do believe.

Exactly as advertised. Much needed how to's. Came in a timely manner. Great price. Spiral bound so it lays flat while reading & working. Nice.

Explicit pictures and simple how-to's to get you going with quilting no matter what your starting level is. Nice that it shows hand and machine options.

A basic book that is wonderfully illustrated with color photographs, black and white illustrations and good instructions and information, however, key information is lacking.

One area that this book lacks is in the choosing of fabric colors and values, which is an important step in achieving a fine finished project. A beginner would not have a clue how to start choosing fabrics if relying solely on information from this book. Anyone can take a book or pattern to a store and pick fabric that matches the pattern, but what do they do when they get their to find the fabric selection limited and they cannot match the colors. One would be lost without the basic information needed for choosing fabrics.

I was hoping to give this as a gift to a budding quilter, but instead will look for another book.

I gave it as a gift to my Aunt who has just begun quilting and needed to start with the basics. I covered a lot of areas and she was thrilled with it.
