Album Notes
Personnel: Kenny Barron (piano); John Stubblefield (tenor saxophone); Eddie Henderson (trumpet); David Williams (bass); Victor Lewis (drums).
Recorded at The Van Gelder Recording Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on February 18, 1991.
Pianist Kenny Barron fronts his all-star quintet, an exceptional unit making its third appearance here. While Barron is clearly the leader, trumpeter Eddie Henderson and saxophonist John Stubblefield form a powerful front line that carries the music forward, while the exceptional rhythm team of Barron, David Williams and Victor Lewis provide first class support.
With the exception of Cedar Walton's swinging "Hindsight," the pieces performed here are all originals. Though they cover a lot of musical ground, Barron and his men are at their most expressive when given a chance to stretch out, as on the sizzling opener "Once Upon a Time," the bouncing "Here and There," and Barron's lightning fast title composition. On QUICKSTEP, this quintet, like Barron's many previous great combos, conveys its powerful bond through its music.

Editorial Reviews
3.5 Stars - Very Good - ...a hard-bop-oriented configuration ...a cohesive and musically well-equipped unit..this is a quintet deserving wider recognition...
