  Nostalgia
Review created: 09/30/08

I absolutely love this game. When I was younger I remember having this game for my Sega Genesis, and playing it constantly along with Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario World for the SNES. This is a great RPG/Platformer, and I would recommend anyone with a working Sega Genesis and a taste for older titles to pick this one up. It's a great RPG/Platformer...excellent buy.

  Donald at his best!

I encountered Quackshot in my younger days and I recently had a hankerin' to play it, so I went out and got a sega and THE game. What's not to like about this game? Quackshot has some sweet 1991 graphics (they were actually pretty bomb at the time) and some excellent gameplay.

Quackshot is a good choice if you're looking for a cheap game that will bring you back to the good old days without a sense of staleness. Surprisingly, the replay value is also there, as I find myself occasionally going back to play it even though I've beaten it 3 or 4 times.

The levels become more difficult as you progress, which is done in a slightly non-linear fashion as you choose the levels that you want to play and discover what you will need to do to acomplish your ultimate goal. The scenery and enemies vary with the music, which does a tremendous job of effectively creating an unforgettable atmosphere. There are character upgrades which come in the form of different plungers, Donald's main weapon, as well as plot developments which keep you on the edge of your seat.

There are a couple of issues, I suppose. Firstly, the control scheme is a bit weird because you cannot press run and jump at the same time (unless you have some dexterous thumbs!). This minor problem, however, can be aleviated by customizing the control setup at the start of the game. Something else, which is noticably missing, is a difficulty setting. When I was younger, this game seemed pretty difficult... but now that I am much older and wiser, this game, although not a breeze, could certainly do well with a slight increase in difficulty.

However, I feel that in this day and age, the target audience of this 16 year old game might not be the younger crowd anymore, but instead the people out there looking back for a sense of nostalgia. For them, like myself, this game is a way to rediscover the joys of Donald Duck, Sega Genesis, and the classic platformer while it was still king!

  Hope You Like A Challenge

I found it rather challenging to play this at first, but I managed to make progress. Disney games can be fun to play depending on what they are. So far Donald has been featured in quite a bit of Disney games. Kids might not enjoy this too much because you have to think a lot to make progress. It's not like Sonic where you can keep going on to beat the level. Skill is definitely a factor here. If this is of interest to you, be sure to add it to your collection. Enjoy.
