Def Leppard: Joe Elliot (vocals); Steve "Steamin" Clark, Phil Collen, Pete Willis (guitar); Rick Savage (bass); Rick Allen (drums). Additional personnel: John Kongos, Booker T. Roffin, Charile (keyboards); The Leppardettes (background vocals). Recorded at Park Gates Studios, Battle, Sussex, England and Battery Studios, London, England. Although many music fans were convinced that Def Leppard would become hard rock's next big band, few could have predicted the massive across-the-boards success that its third record, 1983's PYROMANIA, achieved. Many wondered why it was taking the group so long to release a follow-up to 1981's HIGH 'N' DRY, but the finished product was well worth the wait. Not only did it become one of the year's best-selling albums and made the band instant U.S. arena headliners, but it has remained a consistent seller ever since (by 1994, it had reached nine million units in the U.S. alone). The songwriting and overall sound was more streamlined and succinct this time around--while there are guitar riffs galore, the songs have more of a pop feel. Founding guitarist Pete Willis left during the recording, replaced by Phil Collen, who fit in perfectly with the band. The album features such mega-hits as "Photograph," "Rock of Ages," and "Foolin'," as well as a couple of other tracks that could have easily been singles as well, "Rock Rock (Till You Drop)" and "Too Late for Love." PYROMANIA remains one of the best and most popular hard-rock recordings of the '80s. Review created: 04/09/01 by: missy32 -- a member of Epinions Pros: Lyrics are the best, Joe Elliot really sings great, Cons: NONE If you grew up in the 80 s and you loved rock and roll music, then you had to have heard of this awesome rock band called DEF LEPPARD. The 80 s were a time when rock and roll was changing. You had the new groups that wore make up and dressed up like women, and you had the groups that were just strange all around. But with Def Leppard they were a rock band that looked normal. Good old jeans and t-shirts. Def Leppard has many CD s out, but I have to say this is one of the best albums they released. DEF LEPPARD went through many changes, including their drummer losing his one arm. This didn t stop the group or the drummer. The band plays on and so does the drummer, he came back with a vengeance. DEF LEPPARD PYROMANIA Released in 1983, it was the bands 3rd CD The band consists of 5 members. Rick Savage- Bass Guitar, and I love the way he plays it. The way he strums that baby. Rick Allen Drums. The beat of the drums is what makes the band, and boy does he slam them Phil Collen- Guitar, and no its not Phil Collins. Steve Clark- Guitars, along with Rick I have to say I enjoy Steve s style in playing as well. Joe Elliot- Lead Singer, wow is he sexy and loved seeing him in his jeans. Great voice one of the best I ever heard. So now that you are familiarized with the band, lets move onto the music on this CD and the songs I really love and why and the songs I didn t much care for. Rock Rock Till You Drop Wow this song sure does ROCK. It s one of their louder songs, Rock Rock till you drop, Rock Rock never stop. Those lyrics were awesome, it s the way I loved Rock and Roll I never wanted to stop hearing it. This song has great drumbeat and the vocals sung by Joe are outstanding. You sure will get up and dance to this song. It also made number one as a single. PHOTOGRAPH I don t need your photograph; yeah well I sure did need Joe s photograph. This song also made the number one hit single when released as well. Like most of their songs photograph is good old rock and roll style music and the lyrics are the best. The whole band really performs great with this song. It is a song that will stay in my mind forever. FOOLIN, When you hear this song come on the radio believe me you will know who sings it. This is one of the better songs they sing, and it has some awesome lyrics in it as well. Steve Clark and Phil Collen really strum their guitars in this song. Other songs on this album. Stagefright To late for love Die Hard the Hunter Rock of Ages Coming under fire Action not words Billy s got a gun Even thought I really love this CD, I have to say that no matter what CD you buy of this band you will get your money s worth. The band has stuck together through thick and thin, and one of the other great songs I love from this band is POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME . This is one kick butt song, and the video is awesome as well. I haven t heard anything from this band in awhile, but I will never forget them and their style in rock music history. If you have to buy one CD this year I would suggest this one not only will you like the sound of this CD, you will also like the lyrics to each song, and its one of those CD s that will keep you busy dancing the night away.
