The Proposition
This is one of those movies that drew me right into it. From the first scene to the very last credit I was "involved". It is a very well written, superbly acted, beautifully filmed (in such a harsh environment), and wonderfully directed piece of art. The main characters are gritty with a violent edge, which is an honest reflection of life in that time and place, the Australian Outback in the 1800's. Yet they are sensitive with a strong sense of morality and justice, often acted out Prairie Style. The music, the cinematography and the whispered lines of poetry only add to the spiritual feel throughout the piece. This film does contain a fair bit of violence and swearing, so I wouldn't recommend it for younger audiences. Again, I loved this movie and if you want to watch a truly great film that stays with you afterward, then rent this one.
