Album Notes THE PROCESS is Skinny Puppy's final studio album. D.R. Goettel died on August 23, 1995, shortly after it was completed. Skinny Puppy: Nivek Ogre, Cevin Key, D.R. Goettel. Additional personnel: Martyn Atkins (vocals); Pat Sprawl, Rave, Troll (guitar); Pepperdine (viola, cello); Philth (programming); Lorne Bouquet (background vocals). Recorded at Subconscious Studios, Vancouver, Canada; Shangri-La Studios, California; Soundhouse, Seattle, Washington between November 1993 and May 1995. One of the resolutely uncommercial band's most accessible collections, THE PROCESS was released after the drug-related death of one of its most creative members, the electronics wizard Dwayne Goettel. Goettel's cutting-edge sound collages bookend the album on the opening "Jahya" and the stunning finale "Cellar Heat," the latter perhaps a fitting swan song. "Hardest Head" is breakneck industrial dance music, "Blue Serge" is driven by a compelling bass line, and "Amnesia" is a stately procession through waves of static that at times sounds almost Brian Eno-esque.
