This is a fantastic start to the Prince of Persia series on the Xbox 360. It's not too long, but just long enough. The story takes around 10-14 hours to go through. It's longer if you try to obtain all 1001 light seeds, but it was such a magical game. The dramatic visual style and the flow will keep you hooked for hours. It is also equally visually engaging to watch for anyone sitting next to you (it's a single player game). While the game has it's shortcomings, I did not find any bugs or glitches in this game. Prince of Persia has been well polished and was not rushed out. The design team spent over 2 and half years crafting this masterpiece. You will read reviews that criticize how easy the game is, but look at it another way. It is an eloquently designed game that does away with the standard gaming conventions like the game ending death or tedious repetition. The enjoyment is found in the journey and it's fluid expression of movement.

  BEST PRINCE OF PERSIA EVER!
Review created: 12/04/08
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Forget what you know about the Prince of Persia series. Let go the Sands of Time. Release your Warrior Within. Ubisoft Montreal has created a new Prince, in a new world, with a new female companion and a very different design philosophy. The longer you hold on to the style of last generation's Prince of Persia, the harder it will be to master the new one. Embrace the change and you're likely to fall in love with the new Prince (or at least his lovely companion).
This time around, the eponymous star is tossed into a conflict between light and dark as the evil god Ahriman is released from his prison beneath the Tree of Life. His touch has corrupted a nearby kingdom; alongside the mysterious princess Elika, it's your job to cleanse the world of gooey blackness and put the bad guy back in the ethereal hoosegow.

Mostly, that involves jumping, sliding, gripping and slipping through over twenty levels worth of platforming mania. It's billed as an open-world experience, and in a sense, it is: based on which magical powers you choose to unlock, you will tackle the world in a different order. It's a nice change of pace from the linear approach typical of most adventure games.

It's just not as open-ended as you might think. Telltale signs point you towards certain run-able walls, which will in turn send you tumbling directly towards the right pole, which is handily placed right in front of that useful column, and onward. Simple controls make the whole thing easier than past Prince of Persia games -- you never have to press loads of buttons or get fancy with the analog stick -- but more seasoned gamers might find it plays more like a guided tour than a truly free-roaming experience.

OVERALL
9/10

THIS IS A MUST BUY AND WILL MAKE A GREAT GIFT!

  Why Play Prince of Persia
Review created: 04/07/09

I played the previous Prince of Persia titles on the PS2, so this new one for the PS3 had alot of expectation to live up to. And, boy, did it ever!

The story itself and the stages are all pretty awesome. The team moves and combos you perform with Elika (your partner) actually are pretty easy to do. It's just a matter of learning them all and seeing which can be combined together.

One of the best things to me about this Prince of Persia is that YOU DO NOT DIE. This actually makes the game more playable in replay and get over frustrating parts or accidental button mashing easily.

But, there are consequences for not dying. You will see this in the fighting segments of the game. If you happen to miss a button and nearly get killed, Elika saves you. But, the boss energy increases per mistake, so it forces you to get the hang of the moves. That way, you are not fighting the same guy for an hour or longer (like I did when I kept missing the buttons).

This game had me hooked from beginning to end. And there is an epilogue story available for this game on your respectable console. And even that's pretty cool. I am definetely a fan and I actually like this prince alot more. Enjoy the story; enjoy the game. It's awesome.

I bought prince of persia 3 about three weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive game. Overall, I'd recommend the phone if you're on a budget.

Game graphic - very good
Game play - poor, not much of fighting at all. Combo are easy not challenge.
Game Story - good, but cannot skip it when needed
Game music - fair
Replay value - medium; all depends

Over all: The game is ok, the previous one is much better.

I bought this game because Game Informer magazine reviewed it well. I haven't got into it too for as of yet, but it seems like a nice game to play. Good action & role playing. Nice game to have in your collection!

An honest review from a long time Prince of Persia fan.

I waited a long time for this game to come out. I was very excited when it was finally released. I loved the Prince of Persia series on the PS2 and was hoping for something like that...I didn't get it. I have to say that I was let down by the new Prince of Persia. Yeah, it looks good visually but looks can only take you so far. The gameplay is very repeatative and boring. You're free to roam around but theres nothing to do. You can only use your weapon when enemies are around. The combat is one on one, all the time. I can tell you how each stage is in the game...do some acrobatics, fight the boss, do more acrobatics while collecting light seeds. That's it. EVERY SINGLE STAGE IS LIKE THAT. About half way through this game, I just gave up because it was so boring. Same thing over and over and over. No surprises, no real combat, no tricky puzzles. Am I being pessimistic? I don't think so. This is a renter at best. Game of the year? Not even close!

  Prince of Persia (PS3)
Review created: 01/08/09(updated 06/20/09)

If you already love the PoP series, you may be a little disappointed but overall it is still a very good game.

PLUSSES - Beautiful! Good plot, lengthy game, and the areas and travel are nicely arranged and allow for a lot of choice. Interesting puzzles and navigational challenges.

MINUSES - The prince has been turned into a low IQ jock, and Elika is disapointingly meek. The constant dialogue between them is just awful. Trophies weren't fun - you dont 'find' them in the environment, you don't plan to do specific things to attain them, they just happen. The controls aren't as precise as they should be, especially in turning and jumping. The boss battles are unsatisfying button-mashing fiascos that will leave your thumbs and wrists genuinely sore.

The game disc had more scratches than expected, but the game works fine. I was expecting free shipping as it had said. But when I went to pay they had their own store and the shipping costs was $15. I ended up paying like $56. It had brought down my mood, but i guess im happy i have the games.......

Prince of Persia Returns to Roots
Review created: 10/10/09

Return to Roots
What a great job Ubisoft Montreal has done with the Prince of Persia series with this installment. They have taken out the emphasis on combat which started to turn the Prince of Persia series into a mediocre franchise. What they have done is returned the game to it's platforming roots, with a little bit of combat in between. What we're left with is a great game with loads of platforming, jaw dropping scenery, amazing graphical art styles, and a genius musical score. The story has sucked me in and I'm really looking forward to the next installment.

  Prince of Persia
Review created: 09/13/09
by:

I purchased the game, for I needed an action adventure title in my collection. After reading the gaming reviews, I decided to give it a shot. The game has excellent graphics, including amazing backgrounds and detail. However, it seems a bit repetitive after an hour of playing. The storyline seems a bit dry, and the fact that you cannot die makes this game very boring. Not quite as fun as the previous Prince of Persia's.
