Pride and Prejudice (Mini-Series) (DVD, 2006, 10th Anniversary Limited Collector's Edition)

I am a huge fan of Jane Austen and this is the best adaptation of the books that I have seen so far. It is a great movie to watch with family because it is clean and the settings are really gorgeous. It has 3 dvds including a special edition making of and after production with some of the former actors coming back to revisit some of the things that happened on the set . I was disappointed to see that COlin Firth (Darcy) and the actress who lay Elizabeth were absent from the revisit.

This is the most definitive, perfectly cast and beautifully directed rendering of the famous Jane Austen classic imaginable. I already spent a lot on the six-VHS set long ago, but when I saw the Anniversary edition on eBay, I knew I had to have it in DVD format for posterity.
There is a recent movie of the same story, but although done well, is a pale imitation in comparison to the original A&E production, and I have no desire to buy it or even watch it again.
On the other hand, I watch this - all five hours - at least four times a year.
Any Jane Austen fan, or for that matter, ANYONE, will be stunned by the beauty of this production.
It is simply my favorite movie, and I give it TEN stars at the very least.

I purchased this item as a gift for my wife's birthday, she has read all of Jane Austin's books and has seen several renditions of this movie and by far this is her favorite. She has also enjoyed reading the booklet that came with the series. Finally she has appreciated the quality of picture these DVDs have to offer her.

I absolutely love this set of DVD's. I have been able to play and re-play each DVD getting more of what Jane Austen was writing about each time. I had never read the book, Pride and Prejudice, but after watching the DVD's I read the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. The actors in the production quote sentences exactly as written by Jane Austen. The scenery, costumes and settings are just as Jane Austen would have envisioned them. This story has romance, some suspense, drama, comedy and portrays the family life of the Bennett's in a way that makes you feel that you are part of them. In fact, it is very easy to get caught up in the story and feel like you in the middle of the whole thing.

Wonderful presentation of "Pride and Prejudice". The costumes are beautiful, and the actors are magnificent. I saw the miniseries on A&E when it first came out 10 years ago, and wanted the DVD to keep. I would recommend to anyone who loves the book.

I love this movie. I bought it for a friend and she loves it too. The packaging is very nice too. This movie has it all and is true to the book. I'm such a slow reader, so it is very nice!

This version of Jane Austen's novel most closely follows the book. The acting is well done and the casting of Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy is absolutely perfect. It is one that you will watch over and over again.

Pride & Prejudice at it's best! Watching this mini series is like reading the book in full life and color. Great movie. Great acting. Great story.

This is the 5-hour version of Austen's Pride and Prejudice and the production uses every minute of it judiciously. It is sumptuous, robust, engaging and visually stunning. The box set has a very interesting book on the production, which is a treat itself. Having "consumed" it myself, I bought another set as a gift. It probably won't be the last.

Based on the novel by Jane Austen, A&E has produced a movie version simply without compare. The five hours simply flew by and I found myself wanting it to continue instead of "hurry up and finish." Having watched all of the movie versions I have been able to discover, I found myself preferring this edition above all others on all accounts. From the cast, to the dialog and on to the scenery and filming, I was very favorably impressed. I have never laughed nor cried so much with any other version of a Pride and Prejudice production. To date, I have several family members and friends who have viewed this movie (mini-series) and without exception, both male and female, they have wholeheartedly agreed with my enjoyment in the viewing thereof.

I wanted a copy of this movie because Darcy is the perfect man for any woman. I saw the movie on PBS and loved it. It is in my opinion what every woman is looking for in a man.

Truely a collectors edition,The heavey slip cover that holds the DVD case and Book is sure to keep the set in excellent condition in the coming years! The movie is a very well done version of this Jane Auston title, one to enjoyed again and again! While the book and companion disk enhance appreciation for the story in giving background on both the author and the making of the film! A definate must have for any Jane Auston or Colin Firth fan!!!

This movie leaves you wanting more. I have this particular version for all of the behind the scenes extras it provides, Well written, well filmed and very true the book without being literal. Andrew Davies is a genius and Colin Firth plays off the supporting cast well. I also bought the other version with Ms. Knightly, only because in the end Mr. Darcy takes her to his place and kisses her. I love that part of the ending. I think it is way too abridged for my taste and if you prefer a five hour love affair please go with this one. You will not be sorry. You can't be a true romantic (especially period drama) if you don't have this in your collection. My Mom watches her movie at least twice a week. A bit obsessed, but it is that good.

Outstanding -- the best version of Pride and Prejudice I have ever seen. Envelops you immediately into the story. Firth and Ehle ARE Darcy and Elizabeth. My favorite Jane Austen characters. I'd love to BE her, and take HIM home! Acting, music, story line, character development is superb! The collector's book is terrific -- and lets you in on many details, rehearsals, snags, search for locations. Excellent.

It's one of my favorite Jane Austin novels so this was a must have for me. It's something that I hope one day my daughters will also enjoy.

I decided to buy this DVD set because I only saw the first part on TV. I found this product to be better than excellent. The price was extremely competitive. I love this DVD set!!!

I love it and got addited to the movie, I watched it over and over and fall in love with all the actors and actresses. They did very excellent and perfectly match those characters in Jane Austen bood. Love the fairytale ending. Recomend for people buy the DVD and enjoy it. I did.

I am an avid Jane Austen fan. I already had the VHS format of this, but wanted to make sure I had a longer lasting version. I also wanted "Making of Pride and Prejudice" book which was well done

It is never dull. There is always something happening. I prefer this movie because it has no violence!!!

The quality of the acting, costuming, filming, okay, everything about this production is famously top-notch. I had not planned to watch this when it was originally released, but I was hooked while channel-surfing past it, and have watched it every time it came on my local PBS station since. So it was high time I got my own copy, and this set was an excellent choice. The bonus DVD has some nice--not spectacular--but pleasant features. But the accompanying book gives some good insights into the process of bringing the work to life, the casting choices, locations, etc, as well as an interview with Colin Firth that really helped illuminate the process by which he created his Darcy. If you loved the series--which I did--all of this will be interesting to you, too. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

There is not a version out there that does this book more justice than this series. It's fantastic and worth every moment watching.

What can I say that hasn't been said before... A movie you can watch over and over again. Superb acting. Buy the DVD. You will not be disappointed.

If you are a fan of the book or the newer version with Kiera Knightly then you will love this version as well. It is a lot longer and sticks pretty well to the book. I would highly recommend this if you like Jane Austen.
