Prey is an interesting FPS, and the first one to stray from the typical “formula” I might add. The story line, very loosely based on Indian Folklore, takes place on unfamiliar place in space. Immediately turning on this game, you recognize the makers of Doom and Duke Nukem are behind this game. You start off on an Indian bar and the aliens come and take you for “experimentation” for their civilization. Though it is a tired storyline, the visuals are enough to take your attention away from that.

This was a fun game with its puzzles and nice change up to the typical first person shooter, but to all the Halo and Halo 2 lovers out there, there are not enough bad guys to destroy. This game can be beaten in 3 sit-downs of 3 hours each if you wanted to, though at times, feels to get repeative and boring at times and can drag.

Pros:
Innovative Game play
Puzzles within action
Stunning graphics
Environments that will make your head spin

Cons:
Way too easy
Multiplayer is Lackluster
Loading times are long enough to make a sandwich
TOO SHORT / EASY

Overall: This will hold me over until Gears of War or the next FPS.

To Buy or Not to Buy: This is a great game to get on ebay below the $60.00 price tag, or for a long rental at your favorite establishment.

Matrix, Tomb Raider, and Doom ALL in one!!!!

Graphics are finally here!!! Outstanding gameplay. It has the science fiction of Matrix, the puzzles of Tomb Raider, and the monster's of Doom! I was blown away with the details from the first few seconds of play. The background animation bring this game to life. The weapons are easy to work and fun to use. You have to think extra hard in several dimensions on puzzles because of your ability to walk on walls and ceilings. Hope there are more games like this to follow.

WORTH YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!!

  Solid but forgettable.
Review created: 09/18/06

An interesting idea, Indian magic mixed with strange alien technology to battle for the fate of the world, but really the whole damsel in distress idea where the main character is looking for his girlfriend has been used more than a Hong Kong public restroom. Its also literally impossible to die, every time you run out of health you go into this weird spirit world and shoot magical goldfish looking things that give you health and if you dont want to do that you can just chill until you magically return with half your health intact. I would have liked to see more weapon variety although the ones you do get are rather unique (All weapons are literally alive and almost insect-like. I just lose interest fast in this game the enemy Fire fights get repetitive aswell as the environments with very few cutscenes to change things up. The graphics are solid but would have liked to see more from a 360 title and voice acting is pretty decent aswell. I suggest renting this game because it is pretty fun for a few hours and definitely warrants a rental, but forget about buying it because its a pretty forgettable game.

Prey... Pray for your money back!
Review created: 07/02/08

This game is one of a kind... They made almost everything interactive from the bathroom light switches, sinks, and toilets, but they left out one thing.... fun. This game is actually very appealing and at 10 dollars used I was ecstatic to see that it received a 9.0 from IGN which is considered "Outstanding". This game isn't all bad, but fails to give the gamer anything new. The levels all take place in an alien spacecraft and everything looks the same... confusing. The spaceship is alive and it looks like you are constantly in someones intestines. This games weapons are strange as well. If you don't mind the exact same areas over and over and over and have no need for any change in atmosphere during gaming and don't need a decent storyline, then knock yourself out. I wish I could have liked this game, but I hate to say at 10 dollars this was a waste.

This is the next best game to HALO and a great way to past the time waiting for HALO 3. If you liked HALO you will love Prey. One of my favorite games in quite a while, so buy and enjoy.

  Suprisingly Good...

This game is quite old, to today's standards, but is actually very interesting. The achievements aren't impossible, but can be time consuming, like the Multiplayer (which is actually quite fun). The plot is ok, but the gameplay makes up for it as you have to think about what you are doing and what you should do next. The game is very fun to play and isn't extremely long or short, it's just right. The graphics are great as well. Basically, if you like games like Doom or Quake, you will enjoy this game as well.

  Prey, 1 year after release
Review created: 08/06/07

A good game to own if you are a big fan of FPS games on the 360. Prey has a good graphics engine that does not look old despite its release date. This along with excellent weapon design and good level design provides a strong base for Prey. Unfortunately if you are looking for a game that will hold your attention, though Prey has a multiplayer aspect, the matches are often hard to find due to lack of players online and even more so due to lag I've experienced online with a DSL connection. Will only hold your attention through the single player campaign for 6-8 hours with one play through since the linear story and action makes it hard to play through more than once. So if you are looking for a bargain priced game to hold your attention before halo 3 comes out, this is a good selection. For others willing to wait, I would advise saving the money for Halo 3 and Bioshock.

Broken case for Prey for Xbox 360
Review created: 04/09/07
1 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I love the game, don't get me wrong. Prey is an excellent game in the way of graphics, which are truly next-generation for their time. The action in the game is spectacular, with many different levels of combat which blow your mind. Also, the story is very engrossing and had me coming back for more even after I had finished the game.

But the product was horrible. There was a hole cut in the plastic cover of the data sheet on the DVD/Xbox case, the part of the case that snaps shut was demolished and unusable, and the disc itself was scratched quite a bit (miraculously not affecting gameplay in the least).

From a Duke Nukem 3D fan
Review created: 03/13/07
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Like a lot of people, I remember reading the previews about Prey when it was talked about back in the late 90s for the PC. The fancy technology such as the portals, interactive environments, and a lead character with character (some of the things I loved about Duke Nukem 3D) led me to believe this would be a game to watch out for. Skip 10 years later and it's released for the 360. My opinions about the game:

Pros
----
* The portal technology is pretty freakin cool. You can be in a room, for example, and a "window" to another room will be floating in front of you. You can see into this window and actually shoot into it, and affect what is on the other side. Once you enter this window, you are transported to this new room.

* The gravity paths are a nice effect, and this game actually made me nautious at times (something I haven't experienced in a while from a game).

* While most levels only takes around 30-45 minutes to finish (if you are observant like I am and check out all the things there are to see), there are 22 levels total. I felt the game was pretty short, but I don't know if it was just because of the short times per level.

* The in-game puzzles were fun. On a couple, I had to sit, stare at the screen, and think "how do I get out of this?". They were never too difficult and didn't slow the game down at all. They were quite enjoyable.

* The use of the space ships were exciting and different. At certain points of the game, you actually get to fly around in a mini space ship (with thrusts and a weapon). It almost got to the point where this was over used, but it was a nice change of pace.

Cons
----
* The portal technology kind of felt like the developers used it as an easy way to transition between scenes/worlds/levels. Instead of a steady transition like most games, when you walk into a portal, you felt like you were "dumped" into this new area (which essentially you were), and gave the game a choppy flow.

* The load times between each level are rediculously slow, but once it's loaded, it's done for that level.

* Compared to Duke Nukem 3D, the weapons were way too similar to each other. I don't care for the futuristic style of weapondry anyway, but the weapons just didn't differentiate enough.

* Multiplayer was just boring. I wouldn't have though so with the portals and gravity walks (plus Duke 3D was one of my favorite multiplayer games ever), but the multiplayer maps were not exciting at all.

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST GAMES TO HIT THE XBOX 360 TO DATE AND FOR THE YEAR. YOU CAN SWITCH GRAVITY TO FIGHT ON THE SIDES OF THE WALLS AND UPSIDE DOWN.. GO THROUGH PORTALS... NOT A WHOLE LOT IN THIS GAME YOU CAN'T DO. STORY MODE WAS COMICAL AND GLOOMY.. XBOX LIVE WAS GREAT.. EVERYTHING YOU WOULD EXPECT FOR THE PRICE OF THE GAME! VERY PLEASED!

This was given as a Christmas gift. It arrived on time and the condition of the item was as described. The recipient of the gift was very happy with it and I was pleased to give it. The money I saved with this purchase, verses the retail store's price, enabled me to purchase another game to give as well.

  A new twist to gaming
Review created: 12/29/06
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I bought this on a recommendation of my local game store manager, and a great recomendation it was!

First off i have to say that the gameplay is easy even on the difficult setting. you really cant "DIE" persya, but the revival system is pretty cool. and there was only about 8-10 hours of gameplay here

The Graphix are unique and mind bending and the ability to walk on walls and floors adds a a whole new dimension to the game play.

The story line is kinda week, but makes you chuckle from time to time. indians and aliens... what a combo

If your looking for a game thats not to difficult but stimulates the scenes...this is definately it. i was definately entertained every step of the way.

The few things i didnt like are just basically geek stupidity that most probly wouldnt notice. here are just a couple...

1) YOU HAVE NO FEET!!!! lol it is a small detail, but when you look down...no feet.
2) though the enviroment is completly reactive, you can flush the toilets and turn on the sinks.....but when you look in a mirror, your reflection doesnt 100% match your actions....

As i said...these issues are compleatly meaningless. but in my mind, they went through so much trouble with the suroundings and the constant motion of your suroundings, yet they didnt give you feet! LOL

  Great Sci-fi Adventure!!!
Review created: 09/22/06

Prey is an innovative game that has a lot of things that other games just don't have like portals that you can throw grenades through, anti-gravity floors, weapons in the form of creatures, and an alien abduction storyline(no anal probe in this one though). The 'Doom' engine shines brightly throughout the entire single player game. It is pretty short, sweet, and freaky up until the end of this one. Never really scary though except when giants are chasing you or alien raptors. The entire ship is a living entity and can lead to some pretty disgusting moments throughout so be warned. It's really just like playing through "Alien" except with less scary aliens. Oh and the thing you will love and hate is the fact you can never die. You love it because you don't die but you hate it because you are forced to play the same mini game over and over when you do die.
Online is not a factor in favor of the game or else it could be a 5/5. Constant connection difficulty causes problems for everyone except for maybe the first few connected. If you are host there is no problem at all. Same usually goes for second and third players but anymore than that and the lag will probably start. Still a great game to play even with the glitches of multiplayer. Oh and why no split-screen? Shame on you 2K games. 3.5/5

An interesting spin on a FPS/RPG
Review created: 09/12/06

1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This game immediately caught my attention while reading about it in XB360 Magazine. When it came out, I was interested to see how it would go, and I have to say, as far as game play goes, it was quite good. Early during the game, you obtain a sidekick, in the form of a bird. This bird basically guides you through the game, whenever you get lost, the bird will show you the propper way to go, and I have to say, that made the game very easy to play through. The weapons in this game are also pretty cool, some of them are even living creatures! The weapons give an interesting spin to the game because when you get them, you have no idea what to expect. As an RPG this game is very good. The story line, though extremely short(about 7 hours), is very well done, and really grabs you. The main goal in the game, is to rescue your girlfriend(I know what you are thinking, typical RPG goal, and I would have to agree with you, it is a very typcial RPG story line) but the interesting part in this game, is the fact that the enemy, could also be considered the "good guys." Where as most game put humans facing off someone invading earth and trying to take over "our world," PREY, as it is so appropriately named, has the enemys story line such that they created all life in the universe(excluding them of course) and only put us(as well as all other life in the universe) to feed themselves. When you think about it, this is like us planting vegetables, and then the vegetables revolting against us when we try to eat them. All things aside, this game is an interesting combination between a FPS and an RPG. Had the game been longer, I would have given this game a 10/10, but based on its length, I give it a 8/10. The games inovative story line and intresting choice of weapons are revolutionary to FPS/RPGs, and if you don't mind short games, I highly recomend this game!

The first hour of Prey I spent saying "Wow, what an amazing game" but once you get used to the gravity walkways, gravity wells, teleporters and boxes it is the excellent story telling that keeps you hooked till the end. Not the toughest FPS out there by any means but it is great fun. The single player campaign will not take average players that long to complete but you will never get bored along the way.
Good multi-player support and with some server issues but basically a crazy mess of shooting fun for all involved.
Overall a great game and I would fully recommend it to anyone who loves FPS and great stories.

I bought this game for a good price of course on Ebay. I am always looking for a deal... I of course first read the reviews which were basically an 8 of 10 from several gaming magazines (At the price of todays games it better be an 8 or better fro me to purchase...) Then I searcehd for the best price. The puzzles are fresh because they utilize unique character ability (his spirit can leave his body and interact in areas he himself cannot go and open passages), and atmosphere he is an alien space ship in outerspace so gravity is manipulated making for some very interesting puzzles. The graphics kick ass and the sound affects are awesome on surround sound.

This game is simply amazing. Its about time the Xbox 360 has a decent game to play, one that challenges your mind and is well as i liek to say EYE CANDY to the Gamer. Playing as Tommy the main character, you will experience an emotional story of love and sacrifice as you battle the evil alien race. The character uses his powers to save his girlfriend and the rest of his people from the alien threat. You develop spiritual powers throughout your journey that are just awesome! This game is soo much fun, i recommend it highly on any x box 360 owner, it reminded me of a DOOM 3 kind of gameplay with the endless action. The game is rated M for mature it has "Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Partial Nudity, Strong Language" taken from what i said on the rating on the box.
all in all
a GREAT GAME and WELL worth THE MONEY!!!

One of the most eagerly and longest waited game in history. Now the question comes was it worth the wait.
Well the game engine was overhauled a few times to keep up with the ever changing technology.
Which was one of the best points of the game is the new way of playing a FPS.
Walking on walls, ceilings and changing gravity. This does take a while to get used to but when your mastered it you’re a pro.
The out of body experiences is also a great way of doing some of the same old boring puzzles.
Playing the game in HD does have some areas which are to dark to really appreciate the graphics but the graphics are awesome.
There is a few rock songs throw in for good measure on some stages which give it some kick, sounds overall is very good,
As an added extra you will find some casino machines on certain stages that do add something extra to the game.
But this game’s levels are way to short and the replay factor minimal after you have completed it.
Maybe games like BLACK totally reinvented the FPS genre and expectations are high on the other games in the market.
Overall it was a great experience to play the game but not one of those that are worth to keep for long time in your collection.
